Job Summary
The Director, Degree Certification is responsible for supporting the College of Science and Engineering by managing the degree certification process; providing individual or group advising on academic and career-related issues to undergraduate students.
Duties & Essential Job Functions: Advises students on degree programs and university resources by interpreting and communicating college objectives; preparing and monitoring degree plans; coordinating advising reports with the registrar's office; serving as a liaison between the dean's office and departments; providing alternate strategies for students; making referrals to other support services.
Advises students on progress toward degree completion by ensuring requirements are met; recommending a course of action for improvement; creating degree plans for students with a minimum of 60 hours or more; approve Change of Major forms; authorize students for more than 18 hours in a semester; authorize students for late additions of a course or to drop a course after they have been approved for graduation; approve study abroad forms in absence of Associate Dean; certification of progress for student athletes for NCAA compliance; communication of University and AddRan academic policies.
Provides degree certification of seniors by reviewing all senior degree plans ensuring that graduation requirements have been met; approving students for graduation; sending letters to students informing them they have been approved for graduation or that they do not meet graduation requirements; identify problems and work toward resolutions.
Monitors planned actions by analyzing information and providing reports; periodic follow up; monitor alternate strategies for students; receiving, processing, and maintaining documents and databases; troubleshoot potential problems and make appropriate referrals; meet with faculty as necessary.
Acts as a liaison for school and academic departments by interpreting academic policies and procedures, researching and recommending solutions for curriculum issues; serving as a resource for academic advisors, faculty, and academic departments as well as for admissions and the Registrar's Office; advising prospective students and communicating with parents on majors and programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience
: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in experience.
5 years in higher education administration, academic programming or related field, including advising/counseling students, and staff supervision.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of curriculum and degree requirements.
Knowledge of admissions process, transcript evaluation and student advising.
Knowledge of university programs.
Knowledge of program planning.
Knowledge of customer service techniques.
Knowledge to establish and maintain databases.
Knowledge of research techniques.
Knowledge of NCAA student athlete compliance requirements.
Skill in components of Microsoft Office Suite.
Skill in the navigation of Microsoft Windows.
Skill in communications and interpersonal techniques.
Ability to clearly communicate information orally and in writing.
Ability to interact with faculty and staff as well as students and parents.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Ability to review and make recommendations to improve and streamline processes.
Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.
Work Environment:
Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
This role is an on-campus, in-person position.
