We are excited to be able to offer the opportunity to join our team as Teaching and Research Associate (TARA). This post is designed to develop vital skills and experiences for a career in academia. This post not only presents the opportunity to do a doctorate but also you would have the chance to be an active member of staff within Podiatry and the School of Health Professions. The PhD will be fully funded by the School of Health Professions. More than just a research degree, the primary responsibilities associated with the Teaching Assistant component of the post are to provide specialist support for undergraduate students of the Podiatry BSc (Hons) programme. This involves running workshops, seminars and skills laboratory session, and assist in the preparation of teaching materials for modules under the direction of senior academic staff. You will be part of the BEUP (Balance Enhancement Ulcer Prevention) Research Group, hosted within the Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research (PIHR) a large, vibrant, highly collaborative community of PhD students with good interdisciplinary links. Our groups research aim is to inform everyday clinical practice to focus on the problems faced by people with diabetes and neuropathy. Our work is centred around the internationally recognised Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research (PIHR) which is a multi-disciplinary institute with a vibrant research culture and a focus on innovation and enterprise. Four main themes define the scope of the Institute: Life-course and ageing Future ready health and care system Brain and mind Frontiers in discovery science Each theme hosts a number of multi-disciplinary research groups which support a number of research areas across the University. Improving iNsole self-management for foot Protection in people at risk of first diabetic foot Ulceration: the INPUT Trial. Podiatrists prescribe insoles for people with diabetic peripheral neuropathy to protect against ulceration. Resources are wasted and foot health hampered because patients are not wearing their insoles enough to have therapeutic effect. Our novel patient-centred, behaviour change intervention aims to support patients to increase insole wear time. The aim of this project is to ensure the intervention is ready for testing in a clinical trial through the development of a delivery plan and clinical skills training package. Interviews are expected to take place in September 2022 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not.
