General Description of Position:
The tutoring center at the Ivy Tech Community College – Evansville campus is in need of part-time, in-person tutors. Tutors will utilize a variety of methods adaptable to the student’s learning style. This includes face-to-face individual tutoring, small group tutoring, and virtual tutoring by Zoom as needed.
Major Responsibilities:
Tutor students in a one-on-one, small group, drop-in, or Zoom tutoring (as needed) format to provide learning assistance.
Explain concepts and ask questions that encourage students to think and work independently.
Aids students in preparing for entrance or placement exams as needed, particularly Knowledge Assessment.
Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views.
Demonstrate strong customer service and/or student advocacy skills through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, and problem solving.
Maintain organization and cleanliness in the tutoring areas.
Participate in professional development and training as relevant.
All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

Minimum Qualifications:
Be a current student who has completed at least one semester at Ivy Tech OR have at least one semester experience as a tutor or faculty member or other participation within a learning community (examples: retired high-school teacher or recent college graduate)
If an Ivy Tech student: have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a “B” or better in the course they will tutor, and have no campus disciplinary record
Be able to communicate well orally and work well with diverse student populations
Maintain the confidentiality of tutoring sessions

Bachelor's Degree

Selected candidate for employment will be subject to pre-employment background checks, including criminal history check, and any offer of employment will be contingent upon that outcome.
Work Hours:
Available hours are Monday-Friday, mornings, afternoons, or evenings. Can be discussed and worked out with hiring manager.
Flexible Monday-Friday schedule up to 23 hours per week.
Hiring Range:
$15 per hour
