in the office of
Experiential Learning and Career Success (ELCS)
. The Associate Director of Career Success works with the Executive Director (ED) of Experiential Learning & Career Success(ELCS) to fulfill the unit’s strategic goals of ElevateU — the university’s signature career readiness program. The position is a leadership role managing policies and procedures for career success, supervising a career coaching team, and directing budget to support campus and community collaborations to engrain career readiness across campus and in curriculum. This position researches best practices, peer institutions, and the labor market to recommend service enhancements and/or resources and programming; and, teams with employers, campus partners, state workforce industry, and thought-leaders to develop inclusive, innovative career programs linking UM's career readiness competencies to curriculum.
Primary expectations and responsibilities include:
Guide career readiness program’s policies, procedures, priorities, and goals
; plan, launch, monitor, evaluate, and improve them. Stay current on industry and employment trends to align ELCS services with UM’s priorities and workforce needs. Advance UM’s Career Readiness Competencies and ElevateU by developing, directing, and scaling career-related tools, services, and resources autonomously to engage 2-year, 4-year, and graduate/professional school students.
Offer developmental-approach career coaching
to individuals and in groups on career topics including CV, résumé, cover letter writing; career exploration, assessment interpretation; major/career indecision; graduate school applications; interview preparation; job search and networking; and LinkedIn profile development.
Create and deliver career-related marketing and professional presentations and workshops
based on best practices and workforce trends related to: career/personality assessment and interpretation; academic and career decision-making process; job search strategy; CV, résumé, and cover letter writing; career technologies (ATS, JobScan, LinkedIn, Burning Glass); networking; interview prep; personal branding; career portfolios; grad/professional school exploration and application; salary negotiation; and UM’s signature career readiness program, ElevateU. Source and share employment insight, trends, and information. Represent ELCS on UM, community, and industry organizations/committees and events.
Manage budget and funding decisions
to ensure adequate resources are identified and deployed in support of career readiness programs and personnel.
Advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in career readiness
by empowering al/ students to participate in early career exploration by engaging and serving underserved academic units and historically marginalized students. Create inclusive, student-centered programs and professional pathways for all.
Management and supervision of multiple staff members
: Hire, train, develop, supervise, and evaluate staff and interns; support solo and team project/goals, priorities, work performance, and professional development stewarding career best practices, professional ethics, and compliance (FERPA, HIPAA,Title IX). Assist in managing campus AAUW Start Smart trainers.
Create and cultivate stakeholder collaborations
, expanding career awareness, connections, and opportunities. Design curriculum for career-related courses on campus and in collaboration with Missoula College, Bitterroot College, and UM programs such as TRIO and MT10. Assist faculty in language standardization in course syllabi and curricular integration of career readiness competencies through the Campus-to-Career Initiative. Support Alumni Relations by connecting early-career alum to ELCS services and current students to alum (#hiregriz).
Utilize technology and systems
to support career readiness programs and services. Proficient in a variety of platforms and systems such as: EAB Navigate; Teams; Zoom; Moodle; MS Office; micro-internships (Parker-Dewey); JobScan; Linkedin; CapSource; O*Net, MCIS; Handshake; analytics platforms (Emsi).

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package

Salary for this position is $50,000-$53,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.
Required Skills
Knowledge of career development theory, career decision-making, learning styles, job trends/search techniques, and career-related assessments.
Skill administering/interpreting assessments: MBTI, Strong, 16Personalities, High5, CliftonStrengths, Holland Code.
Practice interpreting/applying employment (EEO/AA) and higher education policies, procedures, and practices.
Ability to successfully lead and supervise teams to design and execute career readiness programs, services, and presentations.
Success working cooperatively to foster collaboration with diverse student populations, communities, and constituencies embracing differences and encouraging authenticity, inclusion, diversity, and equity.
Understanding of academic programs, credentials, transcripts, co-curricular records, and career-related software.
Paramount characteristics: agility and professional judgment, acting independently and equitably with integrity and accountability to self and others; dedication to student development; critical thinking and task follow-through.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree and five (5) years’ experience in career development, counseling, student affairs, higher education, HR, workforce development, or closely related field and career counseling/coaching experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the competencies necessary for successful completion of the essential duties of this position.
Experience providing one-on-one career development coaching/counseling on résumé, CV, and cover letter writing; interview preparation; LinkedIn; major/career indecision; and online branding to undergraduate and graduate students, and alumni.
Experience developing and delivering presentations and workshops on career development, experiential learning, and/or student success to undergraduate and graduate students.
Demonstrated success managing conflict and stressful, challenging situations (and people) while maintaining composure, diplomacy, and confidentiality demonstrating positive verbal and written communications.
Demonstrated successful supervisory, leadership, and management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Career expertise as demonstrated by certifications, publications, presentations, industry thought-leadership, and/or recognition of excellence.
Broad knowledge of post-secondary programs and disciplines, and experience interpreting and applying university policies and procedures to project a positive image to students, parents, campus, and community.
Superior written and verbal skills to strategize, create, and communicate vision and inspire action. Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills.
