Profile

Description:
We have an exciting opportunity for two researchers with an interest in knowledge mobilisation to join our five-year NIHR-funded Plymouth Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC). The aim of the HDRC is to develop the culture and skills across Plymouth City Council and its partners to ensure a learning approach informs decision making around health inequalities. We are also committed to producing knowledge for use locally and of value nationally, especially for similar coastal communities. Our team of Researchers in Residence (RiRs) will work with council and VCSE Research Champions to support the development of a research active culture across the city; undertake local collaborative research or evaluation projects to build skills, locally relevant learning and allow scoping for external research bids; and support formative and summative evaluation of the processes and impacts of building research capacity and capability with respect to designing and implementing demonstrably effective and cost-effective interventions that truly respond to the complex nature of people’s lives. You will be working as part of a larger team. Therefore, we will seek to appoint candidates with complementary research skills. More generally, we are looking for Researchers in Residence with excellent communication and relationship building skills, experience of quantitative and qualitative research methods and evaluation methodologies, and an ability to be flexible and work autonomously. These positions require a mix of skills and behaviours both academic and inter-personal, particularly with regards to engagement (e.g., ability to engage with diverse stakeholders; ability to communicate with non-researchers) and organisational and project management skills. You will also carry out leadership, management and engagement activities, in line with University/School’s strategy, and may be required to support research informed teaching and learning. All activities undertaken within this role will be compliant with the University’s policies, including Health & Safety, Equality and Diversity, Ethics, Data Protection etc. For an informal discussion to find out more about the role please contact Professor Sheena Asthana by email **** There is an essential requirement within these roles that you will be required to travel to and work at different University sites and/or other business locations that may not be easily accessible by public transport. Please refer to the job description for further information. These roles will require an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check plus a Children’s Barred List and Adults Barred List check. Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement. Interviews are likely to take place on Tuesday 9th May 2023 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not. These are full time positions working 37 hours per week on a fixed term basis to 30th September 2027 due to funding, however we would welcome applications from candidates wishing to work part-time. Flexible working options including part-time hours and job share will be considered to accommodate excellent candidates. Please state your preference in the supporting statement section of your application form. We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. We also offer a range of other benefits, including ongoing development opportunities. The Faculty of Health holds a Silver Athena Swan Award and the University holds a Bronze Athena SWAN Award which recognises commitment to advancing women’s careers in STEMM academia. Staff appointed within the Faculty of Health may be able to join the NHS pension scheme subject to eligibility criteria. The University of Plymouth has a strong interdisciplinary research ethos which is supported by our three strategic Research Institutes; the Marine Institute, the Sustainable Earth Institute, and the Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research. As a member of our academic community, you’ll be expected to contribute to our recognised research strengths.
