SOCIAL EMOTIONAL SCHOOOL COUNSELOR
Job Title: Social Emotional School Counselor
FLSA Status: Exempt (Full-time 10-Month Employee)
Salary Schedule: TEAC2023
Salary Range: Per Teacher Salary Schedule
Immediate Supervisor: Chief of Counseling & Accountability
Office Location: UVA Academic Center
Work Schedule: This role will be onsite 3-5 days a week.
POSITION SUMMARY
The school counselor will help support a comprehensive counseling program. The school counselor will also work with students and teachers to address students' academic and developmental needs. Through guidance, advocacy, and collaboration, the counselor plays a vital role in helping students set education and career goals and develop good decision-making skills. The school counselor will attend meetings, collaborate with staff on projects, and participate in professional development workshops and programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans and presents lessons designed to teach students about social, emotional, and decision-making skills.
Plans and presents career lessons designed for students.
Oversees digital programs designed to monitor potential risks for students' online behavior and contacts families as needed.
Keeps comprehensive notes up-to-date and reports to the leadership team as needed.
Organizes and utilizes student/ family surveys to impact counseling decisions
Gives courteous and prompt service to students, parents, and colleagues.
Supports parents, teachers, students, and the Child Welfare & Attendance team to alleviate excessive absences.
Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments professionally.
Up-to-date on federal and state laws and regulations regarding child welfare, attendance, and school counseling.
Actively participates in departmental, staff, and family meetings.
Knowledgeable about individual and group behaviors and individual and community health and social problems related to school-age children.
Works under all applicable laws and UVA policies and procedures
Performs all other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS
Master's degree or higher in Counseling or Social Work
Certified for Louisiana
Strong technology skills (especially Microsoft Office Suite)
Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
Highly organized and punctual
A high degree of flexibility
Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
Team player track record
Ability to work remotely
Professional Development:
In their evolving field of work, school counselors regularly update and share professional knowledge and skills through in-service training, professional development workshops, professional association membership, and post-graduate education.
