The University of Plymouth’s Interdisciplinary Centre for Computer Music Research (ICCMR) is seeking to recruit a Research Assistant to support ongoing research projects on audio signal processing and music with artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and Web audio technologies. We are looking for a solid Python developer with experience in artificial intelligence for audio and music, including knowledge of Deep Learning packages (e.g., Keras, TensorFlow and/or TensorFlow Quantum). Knowledge of Javascript, CSS and HTML is also required. Practical experience with gate-based quantum computing (including quantum machine learning) and Web audio programming (e.g., Tone.js) is highly desired. You will have a degree in Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or equivalent training. A post-graduate degree or demonstrable equivalent high-level work experience, or both, is also expected. Industrial experience (or job placement(s) for recently graduated students) is advantageous. You will work in the well-established Interdisciplinary Centre for Computer Music Research (ICCMR) under the leadership of Prof Eduardo Miranda. ICCMR is world-renowned for its research into assistive music technology, neuroscience of music, AI for remixing audio in real-time, and AI for musical creativity. The centre is pioneering the field of quantum computing for musical applications. The impact of ICCMR’s research into brain-computer interfacing to enable people with severe motor impairment to make music has recently received the highest accolade in the latest Research Assessment Exercise (REF) conducted by the UK higher education funding bodies. Lecturing opportunities would be available should the successful candidate wish to gain university-level teaching experience, as well as opportunities to deliver research seminars.
