Summary:
The Instructional Assistant is responsible to provide support for the coordination and implementation of the Early Childhood Demonstration Center curriculum for children in a mixed age setting under the direction and guidance of licensed or certified teachers.
Responsibilities:
Performing the day-to-day activities of teaching students, while under the supervision of a teacher, or as an afternoon group leader.
Supporting the creation of a classroom environment that supports a constructivist approach to early childhood education.
Working with individual pupils or small groups of pupils in an early childhood center setting.
Providing the Early Childhood Demonstration Center teacher with information about pupils that will assist the teacher in the planning and implementation of development of appropriate learning experiences.
Assisting pupils in the use of available instructional resources and assisting in the development of instructional materials.
Assisting in related instructional work as required including child related displays of work.
Managing attendance records, materials and equipment.
Attending to the health, safety, and physical needs of children.
Supervising students and supporting teachers when such services are necessary.
Supervising college student workers and visitors when such services are necessary.
Supporting students with emotional or behavioral problems and helping to develop their social skills.
Supporting class teachers in photocopying and other tasks in order to support teaching.
Attending professional development, staff meetings, parent involvement activities and parent conferences.
Promoting positive behaviors among children utilizing (PBS) proactive approaches to classroom management.
Implementing and ensuring program quality utilizing the (ECERS-R) and other measures of program quality.
Maintaining a professional atmosphere in the classroom and throughout the school community.
Requirements:
Three (3) years of directly relevant work experience under the direction and guidance of licensed or certified teachers.
Hours:
This position is a part-time position of 25 hours per week.
The successful candidate must possess the ability to work flexible hours between 7:00am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday. Exact work hours will be based on the operational needs of the department.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices for young children.
Ability to assist students in such areas as creative arts and second language acquisition.
Salary:
Range A11 (Step 1 = $26,155)
Salary is prorated based on 25-hour work week.
Notes:
This is a regular, part-time position of 25 hours per week.
