Department: Theatre - 32122 Brief Summary of Work for this position: The Department of Theatre at the University of North Carolina Wilmington is seeking one nine-month, non-tenure track visiting assistant professor of Scenic and Lighting design. This is a one year, fixed-term appointment starting August 2023 and ending May 2024. We seek to hire a Scenic and Lighting Designer to teach the following courses in the Fall 2023 (Introduction to Design and Lighting Design) and in Spring 2024 (Scene Design I and Scene Painting). This position carries a teaching load of 9 contact hours per semester (6 hours of academic and 3 hours of release for production). Selected candidate will engage in departmental meetings, committees, and special project work to further the goals of the department as requested Selected candidate will also: design the scenery, lighting, and multimedia, or supervise student designers for our three Mainstage productions (Dracula, Rumors and The Importance of Being Earnest) and will provide mentorship to student Scenic and Lighting designers for two student lab productions (one per semester). supervise two part-time professional staff members; one Paint and Properties Supervisor and one Lighting, Sound and Multi-media Supervisor as well as work in our production lab environment helping in the supervision of lab students, work study employees, departmental work assistants and volunteers in these areas. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Terminal Degree in Theatre ( MFA ) in areas of Scenic and/or Lighting Design Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills u0026amp; Experience : Preference will be given to candidates with experience in Scenic Design, Lighting Design and/or Multi-Media Design. Required Certifications or Licensure: N/A Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: Our mission is to provide high level education and training in theatre art within the context of a liberal arts environment. For our majors committed to performance or production, we combine pre-professional training with a solid academic core in order to prepare our students for a range of outcomes: from entry into the theatre and film markets to exciting careers in related fields of communication and other cognate disciplines. For theatre minors or general university students we offer a range of production opportunities, as well as academic and active learning workshop classes to augment the general student's breadth of knowledge. For the university community and beyond we provide outreach programs and an eclectic and engaging season of productions that promulgate our view of theatre as both art and humanity College/School Information: The College of Arts and Sciences is UNCW's largest academic unit and awards approximately two-thirds of the university's academic credits. Ours is a comprehensive arts and sciences college comprising the arts, the humanities, the mathematical and natural sciences, and the social and behavioral sciences.
