Position Description:
Under the general direction of the Director for Mobility Planning & Traffic Systems (MPTS), the Principal Planner is the primary lead for the campus' public transit pass programs, including the GoMetro, BruinGO, and Bruin Grad Pass programs. This includes managing the budgets and relationships with the seven public transit agencies that have pricing agreements with UCLA, working with Metro on quarter-by-quarter transit pass pricing, pass privileges, and invoicing, ensuring a seamless experience for the campus community, and setting an annual schedule of marketing and communication that keeps the campus informed as to the program options. This position also works with the two student government organizations (USAC, GSA) for their transit pass referendum programs. The position is responsible for enabling new public transit options as they become available, this includes meeting with municipal transit agency leadership, convincing them that the UCLA market is viable and that they should provide service to campus, and then setting up the pricing agreement, contract, invoicing parameters, service runs, pick-up and drop-off times, and selecting and setting up bus stop locations on campus.
In addition to overseeing the transit pass programs, this position focuses upon grant writing, as many of the transportation initiatives at UCLA require external funding to bring to fruition. The Principal Planner will also help plan, manage and assist with implementation of all campus transportation plans, such as the Sustainable Transportation Plan and the Active Transportation Plan. The Principal Planner will oversee coordination with other Transportation units in gathering and vetting data and information for inclusion in various department plans and reports. Coordinate implementation of various plans with the operational units within the department. Perform extensive outreach activities with both neighboring jurisdictions such as the City of Los Angeles and the City of Santa Monica, and on-campus outreach to numerous stakeholders and departmental partners.
The Principal Planner will review and support other unit planners' efforts as they conduct various studies, surveys, and field reviews in support of UCLA's extensive, award-winning Transportation Demand Management (TDM) program. Perform and manage a wide range of transportation planning duties in support of the bicycle, pedestrian, TDM, and sustainable transportation programs, while focusing on today's transportation issues. The position provides exposure to all facets of transportation planning, including: traffic monitoring; transit surveys and studies; vanpool, carpool, bicycle and pedestrian planning; and development impacts.
Special Instructions:
The target salary range for this position is between the posted minimum and $90,000/year.
