Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Advising, the Academic Advisor will advise College of Health Sciences (CoHS) intended majors. It is responsible for advising first year, second year and transfer students. This position will co-conduct new student orientations; monitor and track students' academic performance; support student success, retention and progress to graduation; provide individualized outreach to students in academic difficulty; connect students with relevant campus resources; and maintain accurate counseling log notes. The advisor must understand and effectively communicate Health Sciences major curricula, major and program admissions requirements, and University policies and their nuances. The advisor will teach or co-teach HLTH 101: Intro the Health Professions. Participation in at least 7 Saturday events, i.e., Open Houses, College Fairs and other marketing events is expected.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in higher education, counseling, or related field. Considerable knowledge of university policies and campus resources. Some prior academic advising experience in higher education. Some experience using advising software. Some experience working with diverse populations. Working knowledge of FERPA regulations. Working knowledge of teaching pedagogy and academic success strategies. Some knowledge of admissions requirements for competitive majors. Strong public speaking abilities required. Effective oral and written communication skills required. Excellent inter-personal skills. Effective time -management, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population of students, faculty and administrators; the ability to work independently and cooperatively with faculty and other offices on campus; a demonstrated ability to further the educational development of students.
Preferred Qualifications
Some knowledge of Health Sciences graduate programs and continuing education programs preferred. Some teaching experience preferred. Some experience in academic advising for the allied health professions preferred.
