Germanna is currently seeking to hire a Dean of Arts and Sciences. The Dean of Arts and Sciences is a leader and champion in the areas of assessment, accreditation, and curricular and teaching innovation. The dean reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Workforce Development in support of the goals and mission of the college. This 12-month administrative faculty position recruits, recommends for hiring and manages full and part-time faculty with duties such as completing classroom observations for evaluation, overseeing strategic planning documentation, serving as the primary contact for credit instruction with the adjunct workforce, and assisting with day-to-day issues that support instruction.  This position is responsible for reviewing credentials and salary placement, monitoring the scheduling process, and assisting with college wide events such as adjunct convocation and student awards ceremony. The Dean provides leadership in the creation, maintenance, revision, or deletion of curriculum, courses, sequences of courses and programs of study offered by or within the College in the Arts and Sciences area, and all managerial activities related to that curriculum (including periodic assessments, required reporting, state and other agency approval processes, and accreditation/licensure requirements). The incumbent will work in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences and the academic administration assistants to monitor and assist with the scheduling process to meet student and program needs, efficiencies, and effectiveness of course scheduling, and allocation of faculty in classrooms and schedule courses that balance seats with student demand.  The Dean of Arts and Sciences provides leadership for the disciplines offering credit and non-credit courses in the division as well as the department chairs: English, Math, Biology, History, Humanities, Anatomy & Physiology, Geology, Geography, Physics, Engineering, Communication, World Language, Psychology, Sociology, Administration of Justice, Business, Accounting, Marketing, Economics, Chemistry, Education, Early Childhood Education, Environmental Science, Political Science, Information Technology and Religion.
The Dean exercises responsibility over all internal and external activities impacting the division, implementation of its strategic plan, and its financial management. The dean will also work with the Executive Cabinet of the College to identify priorities for philanthropic support and secure such support for teaching, research, program development, professional development, facilities, equipment, scholarships, and other needs, while providing leadership and information. A thorough understanding of diversity in student and employee populations and the ability to connect with, include, and consider all student and employee populations in curriculum development and teaching is required. The Dean must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders important to the college while fostering an understanding and belief in the comprehensive mission of community colleges, including workforce development.
The Dean of Arts and Sciences must possess an earned doctorate in a discipline housed, or closely related to those, in the Division of Arts and Sciences. The dean must have a record of excellence in teaching and scholarship and demonstrated successful administrative leadership, including management of budgets, personnel, and curriculum. They should also have experience with the evaluation and development of faculty and staff, experience in resource development and community engagement, and a commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and shared governance.

KSA’s/Required Qualifications:
• An earned doctorate degree in higher education and at least a masters in a discipline housed in Arts and Sciences or doctorate in a related Arts and Sciences discipline from a regionally accredited university
• Demonstrated understanding of education programs and academic assessment at the college level
• Demonstrated love for ALL students
• Demonstrated success in diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging activities
• Demonstrated exceptional communication including the ability to converse and correspond clearly and effectively in verbal, written or electronic form
• Ability to work with and meet deadlines and multitask effectively
• Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty, staff, and administrators
• Ability to critically analyze and ameliorate student success inequities
• Ability to manage administrative assistants and associate dean
• Demonstrated experience in new program development and program review
• Demonstrated experience with early college partnership with high schools
• Demonstrated experience in creating and maintaining partnerships with four-year institutions for transfer
• Ability to identify and coordinate grant resources to support program development and special projects
• Understanding of scheduling efficiencies
• Ability to provide leadership oversight for faculty advising
• Ability to collaborate with Student Affairs on student success strategies and student learning outcomes
• Demonstrated experience with curriculum development, assessment, accreditation, SIS, knowledge of academic policy and procedure, problem solving
• Demonstrated experience in remote and online learning
• Demonstrated classroom excellence at the college level
Preferred Qualifications
• Minimum of two years of experience teaching in a community college
• Demonstrated experience with assessment of student learning and faculty development
• Creative and energetic advocate for the humanities, humanities, fine arts, and social sciences
• Ability to make significant contributions to the continuous improvement of teaching and learning
• Demonstrated leadership in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging activities
