Tagalog Assistant Academic Language and Culture Specialist
The Tagalog Assistant Academic Specialist serves as a foreign language instructor and assistant academic specialist on a foreign language teaching team. This position requires flexibility in adapting to the needs of the teaching team and a thorough understanding of the latest techniques and developments in the field of foreign language training.
Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Support the Tagalog Academic Specialist by providing individual instructional support to students
Develop curriculum and instruct U.S. military and government personnel in intensive language and culture courses delivered in person and over video-teleconferencing (VTC)
Develop reading and listening materials
Assist with voice recordings, administration and organization of language training activities
Instructing students as needed
Assume supervisory responsibilities when the Lead Academic Specialist is not available.
This position is located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina or other locations dependent upon mission requirements or as determined by the DCLCP Director. Due to instruction conducted at multiple training sites, some travel may be required for instructors.
Upon completion of training, the incumbent will continue to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform essential tasks. They will participate in the supported organization’s and DCLCP’s professional development programs to support continuous improvement in their field.

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package

Located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina
Required Skills
Must have a valid work authorization for the U.S.
Experience in instructing Tagalog language and culture.
Experience in curriculum development for Tagalog language materials.
Possess adroit observational skills and be capable of offering fresh, creative solutions in difficult situations.
Applicant must score advanced in English as tested against the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI); may be required to take the OPI before selection and must score superior in Tagalog.
Knowledge of current teaching methodologies and practices in the classroom and experience utilizing advanced classroom technologies.
Fluency in Tagalog language and demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English.
Knowledge in current teaching methodologies and be comfortable with teaching through technology using Video-Teleconferencing (VTCs), Smartboards, and iPads.
Ability to work productively in a group (team teaching, active coordination, extensive collaboration) and effectively in an independent mode.
Ability to teach and develop curriculum in the culture, national security issues, geography, history, literature, natural resources, economy, government, ethnicities, etc. of the target regions.
Required Experience
Master’s Degree (preference in Tagalog language, literature or linguistics)
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in Tagalog (language and/or literature) or linguistics (applied linguistics is preferred).
Experience in intensive language instruction, particularly in a military or government setting
