We are seeking a highly motivated clinician scientist to join and develop our current research programme which currently focusses on the relationship between hypoglycaemia in people with diabetes and its potential effect on cardiovascular disease. You will be expected to contribute to this this work which involves an exploration of mechanisms by which hypoglycaemia contributes to an increased risk of sudden death in individuals with either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. This work involves ongoing collaboration with academic colleagues working in the Department of Infection, Immunity and Cardiovascular Disease. You will be expected to demonstrate expertise and experience in translational medicine in this area and a proven academic record of accomplishment is essential. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in teaching and enthusiasm in contributing to the new Departmental Master’s Course in Clinical Endocrinology and Diabetes.
You will be based within the Diabetes/Endocrinology Theme which operates within the Department of Oncology and Metabolism The clinical component of the post is negotiable but will include some contribution to support the Directorate achieve a number of challenging goals.
You will be flexible, have good communication skills, and be willing to embrace Information Technology to enhance patient care. You must be able to work effectively as part of a team. You will have an understanding of current NHS management and Trusts and be aware of the responsibilities that a consultant post brings.
The post is available immediately but the start date may be negotiated to ensure the successful completion or transfer of an existing research programme(s).
This is a full time, open-ended post (10 PAs – 5 NHS, 5 University) with an on call availability supplement that is subject to review but currently Category A, low frequency. However, applicants seeking a minimum part time commitment of 8 PAs – (3-4 NHS, 4-5 University) will also be considered.
