Digital Communications Manager
. The
Digital Communications Manager
will be responsible for helping to share the stories of the University and its alumni while enhancing the organization’s virtual presence (e.g., website, social media feeds, email marketing, etc.) in an effort to increase outreach and engagement.
Under the supervision of the Director of Alumni Relations, the person in this position will be responsible for creating, publishing, branding and maintaining high-quality content across the organization’s print and digital platforms. With a passion for storytelling and social sharing, the individual in this role will be responsible for developing digital content strategies and leading the creation and dissemination of news and feature stories.
Flexible scheduling and hybrid work will be considered (especially as some night and weekend work will be required for events and engagement opportunities).
Essential functions of this position include:
• Manage the creation, development and execution of digital communication initiatives and supports the development of digital communications strategies
• Collaborate with the UM Marketing and Communications sector to amplify UM and alumni successes and traditions through creative storytelling and outreach (including through The Montanan, the award-winning UM magazine)
• Execute a results-driven social media strategy that supports the goals and objectives of the Office of Alumni Relations
• Develop and curate engaging content for social media platforms
• Create emails and digital newsletters to support alumni programs and services including communications from campus partners
• Establish and manage an email calendar to strategically schedule all alumni communications – internal and across campus
• Manage the UM Alumni website
o Includes web page development and daily maintenance, as well as online form and event creation
• Maintain unified brand and voice across social media channels, digital communications and print publications
• Works with the UM Foundation to ensure the integrity of data syncs between the database and digital communications platforms
• Act as the liaison and provide technical support for all digital communications platforms for constituents, as well as for Alumni staff and campus partners
• Explore new opportunities to engage with UM alumni across the world
• Support and attend local Alumni events (business travel is possible)
• Attend staff and partner meetings
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Uphold the organization’s mission through work performed
Required Skills
• Keen attention to detail
• Excellent communication and storytelling skills (written, verbal, and visual)
• Highly developed organization and project management skills
• Ability to set priorities and manage competing demands
• Ability to translate complex subject matter into compelling content for social media and digital communications
• Ability to work productively in a collaborative team setting, or individually
• Knowledge of Adobe platforms
• Demonstrated ability to quickly master new technical skills
• Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic and evolving environment
Minimum Required Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or a related field
• Demonstrated experience in digital content creation, marketing, public relations, advertising, customer engagement or community management
• Proven ability to create high-quality and engaging digital content
Preferred Qualifications
• Video and photography content generation and editing experience
• CMS management experience (Cascade, Drupal, WordPress, etc.)
• Experience building an online community
• Experience with iModules or similar email platform

Position Details
Position Title: Digital Communications Manager
(Media Information Specialist)
Position Number: New
Department: Alumni Relations
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week, 12 months/year), This position has a variable work schedule.
Salary: $18.266
/hr –Current employee’s rate of pay for this position will be determined by the staff compensation plan and will minimally be this posted salary. For questions and details regarding the staff compensation plan, email the Compensation Department.
Union Affiliation: FOCUS-MFPE
Probationary Period: Six months minimum
