The Directorate of Access, Skills & Apprenticeships (DASA) is a relatively new directorate housing amongst other services, the Academic Skills Team.
As Head of Academic Skills, you will lead and work with Academic Skills Advisers, overseeing the strategic development of innovative and inclusive academic skills support.
With your experience and expertise in developing students’ academic skills, you will ensure collaborative working with colleagues across DASA, Deans, Directors, Students’ Union etc to drive forward developments in academic skills to meet institutional targets and ultimately help deliver the Citizen Student Strategy.
You also will work closely with the Director of DASA providing reports to various committees and recommendations on future academic skills support plans.
The role straddles strategic and operational aspects, therefore you will be expected to undertake direct support activity on occasions, including advice and guidance to students on a range of academic or maths skills, as well as working with academic skills colleagues to design and produce bespoke digital learning resources tailored to the needs of students.
You will have a good undergraduate degree, experience of undergraduate teaching or providing academic skills support at Higher Education or advanced Further Education level, and excellent team working skills and digital proficiency.
