Position Description
The North Carolina Community College System’s Communications Office is looking for a communications specialist turned web content specialist who is passionate about all things communications and all things web. The specialist will be dynamic, self-motivated, excellent in customer service practices, collaborative, authoritative as needed to maintain best practices and industry standards, exhibit proven project management principles, maintain high standards for brand management, and passionate about evolving the system’s web and digital presence to meet user needs.
The communications specialist will serve as team lead on efforts to manage the system website, NCcommunitycolleges.edu, to meet communications strategies and goals and will use various of tools and software to publish a variety of content. The immediate focus for this position is to partner with the inhouse IT team and project manager to work with a vendor and / or other partners to redesign the system’s website. The new site will run on a Drupal platform. Responsibilities of the position will include: mapping page ownership of site, working with content owners to decide what to do with existing content (archive, edit, migrate to new site), training and coaching System team members on how to write for the web, applying SEO best practices, and developing a communications plan for launching the site. Other responsibilities include working closely with the vendor throughout the entire redesign project to coordinate and facilitate meetings as needed, helping make and facilitate decisions for site structure and design, ensuring that all ancillary sites are migrated to the main site, Ux testing, quality testing, browser testing, understanding how the site is built and the relationship between pages and microsites, assist in creating vanity urls, integrating social media content, embedding videos, publishing digital assets, serve as the point of contact and final approver for publishing content on the new site, assure web content is being archived according to applicable recordkeeping and retention laws, track and report site metrics, and other work associated with launching and maintaining a modern website.
Outside of the website, the communications specialist will write, edit, proofread, publish, and manage all types of content for internal and external communications, including promotions, public meeting notices, press releases, email newsletters, and marketing and digital outreach campaigns. The individual will also provide back-up support to social media accounts and perform other duties as assigned to be a team player and to ensure the success of the Communications Office and, overall, the System Office.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/AND ABILITIES:
Proven experience with creating and publishing web content.
Proven knowledge of Drupal platform.
Experience with maintaining large scale websites, including microsite and interfaces.
Experience with using web analytics to improve the website and other communications tools.
Knowledge of branding and cobranding.
Working knowledge of social media platforms.
Experience in web content management and web user interface/creative design.
An understanding of compliance with 508(c)3 Americans with Disabilities Act.
Evidence of good creative and technical skills through a portfolio of past work samples.
Good problem-solving skills and a logical approach to work.
Willingness to keep apprised of fast-paced changes in technology and software and be proactive in implementing changes that support business needs.
Proven experience with style guides.
PREFERENCES:
Knowledge of Drupal, GitHub, Google Analytics, Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop in particular), Constant Contact or other similar tool, basic understanding of php to troubleshoot content publishing issues, minimum of three-year experience managing content and production for high traffic websites.
