The eLearning Developer reports to the Director of eLearning and works closely with other instructional and information technology staff. The successful candidate will have the ability to design and develop highly engaging and evolving digital content (eLearning, multimedia, web-based, programming). The position provides consultation services and some support for instructional applications utilized by faculty, students and staff (primarily the Canvas learning management system).
Responsibilities
Designs and develops engaging digital content to support student learning in eLearning, hybrid and flipped classroom courses
Manages smaller-scale projects for digital engagement including project planning and resource estimations
Consults with stakeholders to determine desired needs, set expectations and set realistic deadlines
Develops user guides, self-help documentation, and tutorials for online and offline use
Performs application testing
Works with the Director and other support personnel to assist users with technical issues associated with use of developed resources and instructional technology
Assists with new application implementations and upgrades related to eLearning
Requirements:
Education / Experience
Bachelor's degree in a field related to instructional technology/design or education; appropriate work experience will be considered
A minimum of one year of experience developing multimedia content for educational purposes
A minimum of one year of experience providing individualized consultation and/or instructor-led training for instructional applications and related technologies, preferably in a higher education setting
Skills
Working knowledge of programming principles and how to apply them in eLearning activities
Proficient with HTML/HTML5, XML, PHP, Javascript, API, LTI, CSS, ActionScript
Ability to create resources for online and offline consumption using common applications (i.e. Captivate, Articulate, Camtasia, web editing & graphic software)
Knowledge of accessibility and usability standards
Understanding of SCORM and AICC formats
Competent and knowledgeable of the primary components of learning management systems
Knowledge of general system operations (OS, browsers, supporting applications) as they relate to instructional technology applications; prefer basic knowledge of both PC and Mac platforms
Skill in troubleshooting, critical thinking, and analytical capabilities
Proficiency with common PC software suites such as MS Office
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to communicate in a professional and consistent manner
