Program Coordinator II
This position works within the Office for Student Life and is charged with coordinating campus diversity programs and engagement. This role supports the extracurricular experience at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.; including hands-on meaningful opportunities in the celebration of diversity and in providing trainings and/or workshops in diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Program Coordinator II will provide event and student engagement support for student organizations and various campus departments such as American Indian Student Services and Inclusive Excellence for Student Success Office. In accordance with University policy, University Center standards, and in communication and consultation (as needed) with the Program Manager for Student Life, the person assigned to this position supervises student coordinator(s) with substantial independence and decision-making authority regarding performance, pay, and employment relationship matters.
As this position works directly with students and must meet the needs of their schedules and programs and events that are not typical of normal 9-5 schedule, the schedule may vary according to the events. The typical workday will be 10 am to 6 pm or 11 am to 7pm, Monday through Friday but may also change to include weekends and later evenings.
Key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Lead efforts and create intentional communication and branding to engage students on social media platforms as it relates to diversity programs and services.
Coordinate major diversity programs and initiatives such as DiverseU and Tunnel of Oppression as well as assist in the coordination of American Indian Heritage Day and Indigenous Peoples Day.
Serve on diversity-focused campus committees as well as participate in various campus-wide diversity initiatives.
Collaboratively advise students on the Student Life Activity Board by providing advice, leadership, and direction for students to ensure program success and development opportunities for those involved.
Manage resources of the Student Life Office in managing daily operations, formulating policies, and planning use of materials and human resources.
Strategic planning, development of short- and long-term goals, and oversight of human and financial resources, and supervise student personnel.
Post-training, this position requires incumbent to develop a working knowledge and ability to:
Learn and manage events in Griz Hub student engagement software.
Learn and make minor updates to various websites in a content management system.
Required Skills
Experience and knowledge in developing, implementing, and assessing a robust array of campus programs and activities intentionally designed to enhance the educational experience and success of students outside of the classroom.
A general knowledge of college student development, especially as it relates to identity, intercultural competence, and self-authorship.
Demonstrated leadership in advising and coaching students and student groups about various aspects of programming and event planning.
Demonstrated knowledge on the ability to engage students with the use of various social media platforms.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of intercultural competencies and current social justice issues.
Demonstrated knowledge on the current trends and issues within student affairs, college programs, and risk management as it relates to events on campus and student behavior.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding on how to communicate and market to students with use of social media and other forms of media.
Supervising and/or management experience that includes hiring, training, and evaluation of staff.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings, trainings, events, and workshops from content creation, identifying desired outcomes, facilitation, to assessment and follow-up with the group.
Demonstrated ability to work with culturally and racially diverse populations to reach a common goal.
Ability to work with a diverse professional campus population (students, faculty, and administrators).
Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing as demonstrated by the ability to draft professional letters, emails, and reports, and present to the public, students, staff, administrators, and staff.
Manage time effectively; be prompt, reliable, and measurably productive.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and one to year’s work experience in college or university setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
