JOB OVERVIEW

Cancer Center (UCCC) in conjunction with **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.'s Survivorship and Supportive Services Program and The Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio seeks an experienced research director to lead and expand cancer survivorship research at the UCCC. Candidate will lead survivorship-focused research design, protocols and funding to inform evidence-based practices of care as it pertains to cancer survivors.  This individual will collaborate with University of Cincinnati and UC Health leadership to enrich the strategic research direction at the UC Cancer Center.
 
Endowed chairs are leaders within our university and health system whose major responsibility is to assure and continuously improve the delivery of high-quality, innovative and evidence-based care to patients and research. This is a full-time leadership research position for an individual interested in furthering his/her academic research career with a focus on cancer survivorship and building a world-class research program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop and lead a high performing multi-disciplinary and inter-professional team of experts focused on researching cancer survivorship.  In particular, focusing on the investigation of novel cancer survivorship questions related to screening, identification, prevention and treatment.  Particular interest in candidates who focus on population sciences and those comfortable overseeing research in both pediatric and adult survivorship, evaluating survivorship issues across the lifespan.
 
Specifically, 
• Develop a world-class cancer survivorship research program that is seen as a local, national, and international leader in the field.
• Work with the UC Health clinical care teams in strategic partnership to define and design long-term academic directions and build a network of researchers and educators with interests in cancer survivorship.
• Act as a national resource for evidence-based evaluation cancer survivorship and cost-effective medical care.
• Facilitate inter-institutional and interdisciplinary research across the university community.
• Develop and maintain her/his own research program in a relevant area and mentor junior faculty, pre-and post-doctoral fellows, staff, and medical students.
• Conduct several areas of research such as: 
         1) Epidemiology research to evaluate risk factors (e.g. clinical, psychological) and biomarkers (e.g. genetic polymorphisms inflammatory) associated with the symptom burden of cancer treatment; 
         2) Clinical trials research to develop and test novel interventions that address common symptoms of cancer patients (e.g. cardiovascular disease, pain, fatigue, and cognitive impairment) or address secondary prevention and wellness protocols post-treatment; or  
         3) Dissemination and implementation research to determine optimal approaches to ensure research evidence is translated into community settings to improve patient outcomes, particularly in under-resourced communities
• Secure funding, grant writing, develop and implement research protocols, manage study staff, analyze data, and prepare manuscripts/presentations.  
• Assist with recruitment of other researchers with interest in cancer survivorship
• Actively assure compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements, as well as UC and UC Health policies and standard operating procedures. 
• Commit to understanding the budget and financial drivers of the research activity within designated scope, including visibility to and annual input on the operating and capital budgets. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• MD/DO, PhD or doctoral equivalent in fields such as Oncology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics,Population Sciences, Health Outcomes Research, Psychology, Nutrition, Exercise Physiology, Epidemiology or other field       related to the practice and research of cancer survivorship.
• At least 5-7 years of post-doctoral research experience in cancer survivorship
• Any minimum academic rank
• Experience implementing clinical trials and/or observational studies in the field of cancer survivorship.  
• Strong quantitative, qualitative and analytic skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Successful track record of funding, grant writing, and manuscript publication
• Evidence of national and international reputation  
• Demonstrated ability to work well within interdisciplinary teams and collaborations
• Experience working with under-resourced communities strongly preferred
• A commitment to transforming health care delivery and policy through science
• Experience with quality improvement methodology  

 

SELF-DEVELOPMENT AND ASSESSMENT
The Research Chair shall:

*demonstrate proficiency within 1 year, and develop expertise within 3 years, in performance improvement methods and data-driven decision-making. Training, coaching and experiential learning will be provided by the CMO office and UC Health.   *commit to continuously improving leadership skills consistent with organizational needs and methods.   *be assessed on results achieved within their strategically aligned set of goals as well as leadership assessment using direct observation, self-assessment and 360o team evaluations.  
  

APPOINTMENT AND REPORTING
The Research Chair holds an academic leadership position at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. and will have a reporting relationship and accountability to the Medical Director of the Cancer Survivorship and Supportive Services Program and the Co-Directors of the Cancer Center. Reporting to Department Chair of her/his sub-specialty TBD.  Continuation of the appointment is contingent upon satisfactory progress toward goals and leadership evaluation. 

ACCOUNTABLE LOCATION, INDIVIDUAL METRICS OF SUCCESS AND DISTRIBUTION OF EFFORT
The Research Chair will be responsible for building a sustainable survivorship research portfolio that will align with UCCC research priorities and UC Health system priorities.  She/he will work closely with the Medical Directors of Cancer Survivorship, as well as other researchers and clinicians at the Cancer Center to achieve said aims.  The Research Chair will also work with other UC faculty to develop synergies across campus and mentor cancer survivorship faculty. The position is primarily research-focused in nature, with 20% protected for Administrative time to achieve the above stated goals.  As an academic health system, education time will be considered for this position with appropriate support for these activities.
