We are inviting Expressions of Interest in PMS Clinical Lead for Ethics and Medical Humanities. This is an exciting opportunity to take a lead role within Plymouth Medical School, taking forwards our well-developed Ethics and Medical Humanities teaching. We would welcome both those new to the School or already involved. This role will suit someone who has interest in medical education, and is keen to help students develop ethical reasoning skills emotional insight and broaden perspectives on health, illness and well-being. There is potential to split the role where the right candidate(s) is unable to fulfill 3PAs but would wish to take an Ethics or Medical Humanities portfolio and work collaboratively. You will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of the Medical Ethics, Law and Medical Humanities curricula, providing clinical input and insight into the design and delivery of these important themes throughout the 5year BMBS programme. Students’ knowledge and understanding of ethics, law and medical humanities is gained through a variety of learning activities, including small group sessions, workshops and plenaries, and through a wide range of clinical placements throughout the five years of the course. Medical humanities draw on diverse disciplines, including literature, art, narrative medicine, philosophy, ethical decision making, anthropology, and history, in pursuit of medical educational goals. You will have oversight of the Medical Ethics and Law curriculum and will work alongside the Academic Lead for Medical Humanities, providing clinical insight and perspectives. You will add to our existing pool of providers, recruiting and supporting others in curriculum delivery. It is anticipated that you will be involved in some teaching delivery but provision of external providers is resourced. Based in Plymouth, the lead will have an oversight and support role across all sites. As such, infrequent travel outside Plymouth may be required at times but key staff in Torbay and South Devon, and Taunton and Somerset sites sites work to recruit providers and provide administration at these sites. Work alongside the Academic Lead for Medical Humanities, providing clinical input and perspective and ensure that humanities learning is clinically relevant, meaningful and enables students to develop the modes of thought and practical skills clinicians will need.
