The Instructional Designer reports to the Director of eLearning and works closely with other instructional and information technology staff. The position provides instructor-led and virtual group and individual training, consultation, and some support for instructional applications utilized by faculty and staff to include instructional design components; current educational and Internet technology, including major learning management systems, social media, synchronous and asynchronous tools, Web 2.0 and multimedia tools.
Responsibilities
Consults and collaborates with faculty, administrators, and instructional staff on design, development, and evaluation of instructional programs, materials, methods, student support systems, teaching and assessment techniques
Manages individual and group projects
Applies QM standards to design of courses (preferred)
Researches and develops education tools, technologies and best practices that enhance student learning outcomes
Provides training and mentor faculty staff on the use of technology to enhance learning
Develops user guides, self-help documentation, and tutorials for online and offline use
Works with the Director to identify and deploy training schedules and sessions
Works with the Director and other support personnel to assist users with technical issues associated with the course management system
Requirements:
Education / Experience
Bachelor degree in a field related to instructional design/technology or education; appropriate work experience will be considered
A minimum of two years of experience providing course design and development support and instructor-led training for instructional applications and related technologies, preferably in a higher education setting
Proven e-learning design and development experience and experience with designing, developing, and delivering online and blended learning solutions
Skills
Excellent attention to detail and the ability to multitask under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as a team member
Deep instructional design knowledge and application with the ability to convert this into engaging learning experiences
Ability to write strategic learning plans for curriculum
Ability to apply ADDIE principles to meet course goals and/or training objectives
Excellent analytic and evaluation skills
Competent and knowledgeable in the area of multimedia hardware (scanners, digital cameras, video cameras, printers, etc.)
Knowledge of general system operations (OS, browsers, supporting applications) as they relate to instructional technology applications; prefer basic knowledge of both PC and Mac platforms
Competent and knowledgeable in the area of digital Media Editing Tools (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier, etc.)
Competent and knowledgeable in the area of distance learning environments (e.g. Canvas and/or Blackboard)
Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally and build strong relationships with a diverse group of users and support staff.
Familiarity with computer related ADA requirements and ability to incorporate features to comply with Section 508
Skill in troubleshooting, critical thinking, and analytical capabilities
