Required Qualifications:
The position requires either a Ph. D. in climate science or a related field (e.g., atmospheric science/meteorology, physical geography, hydroclimatology, climate/earth systems science, hydrology, civil/environmental engineering, astrophysics, etc.) or a Master’s degree with equivalent experience.
Excellent skills in oral, written, and digital communication are also required.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications, the preferred qualifications will be used to differentiate candidates that meet all the minimum required criteria:
Strong project management ability and experience working with/in research cohorts related to water resources and climate change. Financial and budget management skills are desired.
Familiarity with technical components necessary to ensure the completion of essential duties and the coordination of internal staff and external stakeholder partnerships. Areas of knowledge include:
Water resources and hydrological dynamics at multiple spatial scale.
Flood, climate, and water resource modeling.
Climate change impact assessments.
Ensemble climate models (i.e., CMIP5 GCMs, RCMs, etc.)
Bias correction and downscaling methods.
Quantitative data analysis with programming languages (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB)
Possesses the drive to learn and keep up to date with current scientific and policy-related publications and expand their areas of knowledge to accomplish tasks.
Job Description:
The primary purpose this job is to lead the Meadows Center's climate program, which will include (1) overseeing and conducting climate-related research in science, social science, and policy through contracts and leveraging personal interests; (2) communicating on the climate program to researchers, policymakers, and the public; and (3) elevating the Meadows Center's role as a vital source of scientific information on climate change impacts on water resources for the general public and policymakers. Responsible for developing and coordinating research opportunities and supporting stakeholder and agency engagement and consultation. Responsible for working with faculty and staff at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. and other universities, foundations, government agencies, and non-profit organizations. This position will mainly support grant-funded projects, including climate decision support systems for planners and resource managers.
Job Duties:
Manage the establishment and operations of a robust, respected, and externally funded climate research program at the Meadows Center. Coordination and oversight of program staff, students, contractors and Fellows involved in climate science work at the Meadows Center. Develop relationships and seek external funding support. Coordinate across programs of the Meadows Center to integrate climate science and research into all of the Center’s work products and priorities.
