Job Description:
The Department of Natural Sciences offers general education courses for non-majors as well as a Biological Sciences Major (about 100 undergraduates) and minors in Chemistry, Environmental Sustainability, and Physics. Baruch College is in the vibrant Gramercy Park District of New York City. It is easily reached from the other boroughs of the City and New Jersey by car and public transportation. The Natural Sciences Department invites applications for a lecturer in Environmental Studies. We are seeking a candidate with teaching experience and research at the interface between biological systems (genes to ecosystems) and global climate change. Preference will be given to interdisciplinary scholars whose work aims to create a more just society. Examples include but are not limited to: biological impacts in marginalized communities, water and food resources in environmental justice areas, resilience in urban ecosystems, and urban environmental health hazards.
The successful candidate willhave a 24-unit teaching load, at least 18 of whichwill be as teacher of a Pathways course, such as ENV 1003L Fundaments of Ecology and ENV 1004 Fundamentals of Ecology research. The remaining hours may be administrative work, and/or teaching an upper-level course in their area of expertise to biological sciences majors and environmental sustainability minors. The candidate will participate in Baruch’s “Inclusive Pedagogy Workshop” and CUNY’s “Innovative Teaching Academy.” This position is eligible for a Certificate of Continuing Employment after 5 consecutive years of employment.

Qualifications:
· PhD degree in Biology/Environmental Science
· Expert teacher of Environmental Science
· Thought leadership in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), especially as it relates to the specific discipline, is encouraged
· Demonstrated effectiveness teaching in at least two of the three modalities of in-person, hybrid, and online.
