As a member of the central management team for the department, the Assistant Director for Housing and Residence Life works collaboratively to support the strategic goals and Catholic mission of the University. The Assistant Director will supervise the two Area Coordinators. This position also oversees the recruitment, hiring, training and development processes for professional and paraprofessional hall staff. The Assistant Director has oversight of the RA programming process including the development and maintenance of the RA programming model. This person also serves in the Central Duty rotation and aids in departmental policy development, goal implementation, and strategic planning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Programming
• Provides direction of the curriculum-based programming model for the resident assistants in conjunction with the professional hall staff and their specific hall responsibilities
• Implements assessment program for the programming model/provides regular reporting on progress
• Works with campus partners for programming collaboration including the Office of Student Engagement, Campus Ministry, and the Dean of Students Office
Staff Selection/Training
• Coordinates all aspects of the resident assistant selection process, including outreach to campus community about RA selection
• Manages the rehiring process for returning RA staff and mid-year hiring for any vacancies that arise
• Development, implement, and assess Resident Assistant training throughout the year including summer training, winter training, and monthly in-services
• Oversees professional hall staff recruitment and interview process
• Responsible for the training and development of new professional hall staff including onboarding, professional staff training sessions, and ongoing professional development for in hall staff
Supervision
• Responsible for hiring, training of Area Coordinators
• Directly supervises two Area Coordinators and their respective areas
Other Duties
• Participates in departmental policy development, goal implementation, and strategic planning, including leadership of departmental task teams(s)
• Serves on assigned departmental committees and represents Residence Life on campus wide committees
• Represents the department and collaborates with other division and university units
• Maintains daily office hours and projects a high degree of visibility and availability to all staff members
• Provides On Call crisis intervention with full decisions-making authority
• Performs other duties assigned by Director of Residence Life
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree. 3-5 years experience in Housing and Residence Life.
