To foster a positive workplace culture that advances diversity, equity, inclusion and excellence in HR service delivery, the Human Resources Generalist performs critical day-to-day HR functions at WAMU. These functions include job documentation and pre-classification of positions, talent acquisition (recruiting), onboarding and offboarding, coordinating professional development and other talent development (training), and providing HR customer service and advisory services to WAMU staff and managers covering employment, benefits, pay, and other policies and programs. The incumbent provides input and contributes to the development of WAMU HR strategic and process improvement initiatives relying on assessment, feedback and data to highlight areas for improvement.
The position reports to and works under the direction of the Director of Human Resources at WAMU, along with an HR assistant and other short-term or temporary HR professionals, and does not have direct reports. The position requires that the incumbent have experience in human resources, the ability to work independently, have strong attention to detail and customer service skills and the ability to collaborate with all levels of employees at WAMU, of which a portion is unionized.
The incumbent will work closely with WAMU and AU HR leaders, managers and staff supporting WAMU's HR function in a high performing, fast-paced broadcast and digital media organization grounded in the WAMU Statement of Principles and AU's mission and strategic goals.
Essential Functions
Talent acquisition (recruiting):
Utilizes the university's

approach and other best practices to, recruit, interview, and facilitate the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions. Collaborates with department managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings. Coordinates the scheduling of interviews and collection of feedback. Conducts reference checking and coordinates other pre-employment background checking and offer letters with the Office of Human Resources. Ensures supervisors and search committees are trained on the university's

initiative.
Job documentation/compensation classification
: Works with WAMU supervisors to prepare and maintain job descriptions for each position at WAMU and to ensure descriptions accurately reflect the work being performed by incumbents. Evaluates each position and its respective duties where recruitment or reclassification is needed to determine a preliminary classification based on AU compensation system and works with AU HR to finalize the classification. May use benchmark data to complete the preliminary evaluation in order to offer competitive compensation ranges for each position.
Customer Service and Consultation:
Provides consultation and customer service to WAMU staff and managers on HR matters including but not limited to pay, benefits, leave and other HR programs and policies. Refers complex or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff at WAMU, AU Equity or HR offices.
Onboarding and Offboarding
: Delivers a supplemental station-specific new hire orientation and supports onboarding of staff by managers on respective teams. Conducts exit interviews and coordinates offboarding processes. Summarizes exit data for leaders to identify opportunities for improvement in the employee experience.
Development and Training Coordination
: Plans, schedules and coordinates training offerings at WAMU. Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and policy training. May deliver certain courses or coordinate delivery by internal staff or external organizations.
Compliance:
Maintains compliance with AU and WAMU policies that follow federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance. Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent
4-6 years of relevant experience. Specific experience in job documentation/compensation classification, recruiting, onboarding and facilitation skills.
Preferred Education and Experience
Master's degree or equivalent
5-8 years of relevant experience. Experience working in a digital media organization preferred. Experience working in a unionized environment preferred.
SHRM or related HR certification preferred.
