Job Summary:
The Assistant Chaplain is responsible for contributing to the religious and spiritual life of the campus by overseeing key programs, advising/mentoring over 220 student leaders from over 24 religious organizations and providing pastoral care and counseling to the university community at large; particular oversight to departmental programs with collaborative academic partnerships; coordinates university worship services and organizes faith-based social service, mission, relief and justice initiatives.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Contributes to religious life & community on campus by providing support, advising, and mentoring for student religious organizations, student leaders and related staff; oversees faith-based leadership development, training and resources for over 220 religious student leaders, advisors and staff; provide students and organizations campus wide planning religiously oriented programs support in the areas of planning, implantation, and assessment; and overseeing annual campus-wide collaborative programs with organizations and community partners.
2. Contributes to practice, exploration, dialogue and the development of values and identify by overseeing co-curricular learning opportunities and programs that reach a cross-section of individual students, student organizations, departments and classes; addressing topics including, but not limited to This I Believe, Hunger Week and other university faith based-social justice, mission and service initiatives; mentoring and supporting student-led faith-based social justice initiatives, organizations, groups and leaders, and providing leadership for TCU's historic hunger relief initiatives, organizing university worship held at key times of the academic and liturgical year including leading development as needed of weekly worship and faith development opportunities for underserved populations.
3. Provides pastoral and spiritual care to the university community by offering pastoral care in times of grief, crisis and life transition, serving as a member of the department's crisis response group, offering spiritual care and direction to all members of the university community, especially to undergraduate students; providing spiritual care, faith development and pastoral support to groups including small groups, organizations, and departments, serving in ceremonial and pastoral roles throughout the university as needed.
4. Contributes to departmental, division and university mission, initiatives and responsibilities by assisting with church relations and other institutional and community responsibilities, providing leadership for departmental programs and support for departmental organizations as needed; participating actively in departmental planning, programs, events, staff development, and meetings; serving the division and the university community through involvement in orientations, camps, committees, workshops and other programs as appropriate and/or assigned; participating in departmental and divisional staff meetings, committees and initiatives; collaborating with departmental partners and programs.
5. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience
:
Master's degree in Divinity or related degree.
2 years' experience in ministry in a higher education or young adult environment.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
Ordained and in good standing within an accredited divinity school or seminary.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of college chaplaincy/campus ministry approaches as well as college student development with special attention to its moral and spiritual aspects.
Knowledge of commitment to diversity and an understanding of/appreciation of cultural, ethnic, religious and individual differences.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office/Mac OS applications.
Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and/or Mac OS navigation.
Knowledge of strong pastoral techniques including the ability to provide support, mentoring, pastoral and spiritual care to young adults.
Knowledge of administrative and organization techniques.
Knowledge of program development, facilitation, and training techniques.
Ability to assist in the faith and theological formation of individuals and groups.
Ability to establish strong rapport with students of all faith and spiritual perspectives.
Ability to work independently and a part of a team.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.
Work Environment:
Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
This role is an on campus, in-person position.
