Rowan University is accepting applications for the position of Professor of Professional Practice and Director of Clinical Education (DCE) for the Respiratory Therapy Program. Offering entry-level and degree-advancement programs leading to the Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy, the program is housed within the Virtua Health School of Nursing & Health Professions of Rowan University and will be offered on the campus of Rowan College of Jersey in Sewell, NJ.
The DCE will be responsible for providing leadership, guidance, role modeling, and appropriate learning experiences for respiratory therapy students. The DCE is responsible for providing effective leadership in developing, conducting, and assessing the clinical education program. The DCE will report to the Director of the Respiratory Therapy Program and will work closely with other program personnel to administer the program and ensure compliance with the standards of the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). The DCE will also work collaboratively with clinical partners and with the leadership and faculty of programs in the allied and affiliated health professions and Rowan University's two medical schools to provide students with educational experiences reflecting interprofessional practice and care.
Once the program is established, the DCE will be expected to teach in and assist the Program Director with administration of the program. The position is a full-time 12-month (non-tenure-track) appointment with an anticipated eventual distribution of workload of 50% teaching and 50% administration and an initial greater proportion devoted to administration as necessary to achieve provisional accreditation and program launch.
The responsibilities of the DCE will be to: Support and promote the Respiratory Therapy program
Maintain open communication among faculty, staff, and clinical affiliates
Cultivate an inclusive professional and educational environment
Serve as an ambassador for the Respiratory Therapy program in relations with the community
Participate in Advisory Committee meetings
Participate in recruitment and retention of respiratory students
Participate in program marketing
Recruit clinical practice sites and maintain working relationships with appropriate personnel at each site
Coordinate all clinical and laboratory student learning activities
Develop and teach courses in the BS in Respiratory Therapy program, including but not limited to curriculum design and outcomes assessment
Participate in policy development, implementation, and review
Prepare and maintain mandatory program documentation and records
Supervise clinical faculty members and ensure inter-rater reliability is maintained regarding student clinical evaluation
Assist the Program Director with mandatory accreditation reporting and perform other related duties as assigned
Serve as the acting Program Director in the absence of the Program Director
The successful candidate possesses the following qualifications: Master's degree in respiratory therapy or closely related healthcare field from an academic institution accredited by an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
Valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential and current NJ state license
Minimum of four (4) years' experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care
Minimum of two (2) years' experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/ preceptor for students of such programs
Ability to complete the CoARC Key Personnel Training Program
Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills
Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology or proven ability to learn these skills
Utilization of innovative teaching methods incorporating technology, including on-line resources
Ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners in large and small settings
Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of students, faculty, and staff, and commitment to a student-centered environment.

The physical demands described below are representative of those necessary to fulfill the essential functions of the job. Instruction in use of equipment and activities associated with patient care replicates the clinical setting and requires physical capacity comparable to that of a practicing respiratory therapist based on the O*NET summary of work activities.
