PhD Studentship: Topology of Fine-Scale Bubble-Induced Turbulence
**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.
- Department of Civil Engineering
Qualification Type:
PhD
Location:
Birmingham
Funding for:
UK Students
Funding amount:
£15,609
Hours:
Full Time
Placed On:
25th February 2022
Closes:
23rd May 2022
This project seeks motivated candidates that wish to do ground-breaking research on the turbulence of bubble flows. We know that turbulence in multiphase flows has very different features from the ones we find in single phase fluids. We have barely started to identify such features, and we still do not fully understand why and how they work. Yet the potential applications of this fundamental knowledge are numerous and impactful, since we find bubbly flows in all sorts of industrial scenarios, from nuclear reactors to wastewater plants.
The chosen candidate will perform 3D Direct Numerical Simulations of bubbly flows in our supercomputers and use advanced techniques to analyse the physical mechanisms behind the peculiarities of bubble-induced turbulence.
This candidate would work under the supervision of Dr Fraga and in collaboration with a network of collaborators in the UK and US. Upon finding the right candidate, this PhD project would compete for a full scholarship from the CDT in Topological Design of the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***., funded by EPSRC.
Candidate requirements: We are looking for a motivated individual with a background in Mathematics, Physics, Mechanical/Civil/Chemical Engineering. Basic coding abilities are desirable.
This is an exciting and comprehensive 3 1 programme that offers a great degree of support and opportunities to the student ( ****References:
