Job Description:
Lead educator for approximately 18 students during a six-week summer academic and enrichment program.
Responsibilities Include:
Lead educator for approximately 18 students during a six-week summer academic and enrichment program
Build strong and mutually respectful relationships with students and their families based in open communication and collaboration
Facilitate an emotionally safe and trauma-responsive classroom environment
Maintain professional boundaries and mutually respectful relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and community partners
Responsible for planning and instruction of different subject areas using a wide range of teaching aids
Maintain attendance records, work with Executive Director and Academic Coordinator on lesson plans, teach lessons and provide evaluative feedback
Work with, oversee and supervise assigned interns and volunteers
Attend one week of orientation, new hire onboarding session, and set up prior to the start of the program
Participate in all training opportunities and support groups
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Knowledge and Skills Needed:
Minimum 2-4 years head teaching experience in a K-8 classroom preferred
Experience teaching a wide range of abilities and extending curriculum to meet the needs of all students and ability to foster a lifelong love of learning in children.
Strong commitment to the Horizons at SHU mission and interest in being involved in our community during the six-week summer enrichment program and through participation in year-round events.
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
Experience with project-based learning
Clear understanding of differentiated instruction
Effective oral and communication skills
Experience using technology to enhance instruction
Skills needed to mentor and supervise interns and volunteers

Trainings generally run 9am - 4pm, Program days are 8am - 4pm
