Start date: 1 October 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Applications are invited for the post of Associate Professor (or Professor) of the History of Modern France and the Francophone World to be held in the Faculty of History in association with the Sanderson Tutorial Fellowship in Modern History at University College. This is a full-time position based at University College, High Street, Oxford, OX1 4BH and at the Faculty of History, 41-47 George St, Oxford, OX1 2BE.
The appointee will be part of a lively and intellectually stimulating teaching and research community that performs to the highest international levels in research and publications, and will have access to the excellent research facilities that Oxford offers. The Faculty of History in Oxford is the largest in the United Kingdom and one of the largest in the world, with an excellent reputation for the quality of its research and teaching. The appointee will be a member of both the College and the University community, and will have an active role to play in the running of the College (as a member of the Governing Body and a trustee of the College) and of the University (as a member of Congregation). Applications for this post are welcome from well-qualified candidates with teaching competence in modern European and World History, across a range of papers as required by the undergraduate degrees of the History Joint Schools (History and Politics; History and Modern Languages; Ancient and Modern History. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in advanced study and academic research, and to enthuse and inspire students at both undergraduate and graduate level through tutorials, classes, lectures, and supervision.
The successful candidate will have completed a doctorate in a relevant field (or submitted a completed doctoral dissertation for examination by the advertised closing date for this position), and will have evidence of distinguished research and/or research potential in the area of the History of Modern France and the Francophone World, a publication record of international standing, appropriate to the stage of the candidate’s career, and evidence of excellence in teaching Modern History.
