Job Description:
BASIC PURPOSE:
The Graduate Assistant for Cross-Cultural Education is responsible for assisting the Director of ALANA & First-Generation Student Success with the overall supervision of all aspects of the Cross-Cultural Center, specifically serving as advisor of the ALANA (African/Latino/Asian/Native American) Network. Assumption's ALANA Network is a student organization funded by the Student Government Association. The Graduate Assistant contributes to developing a vibrant co-curricular life that supports seamless learning initiatives and educational opportunities within Catholic higher education. The Catholic mission manifests itself in the work of all staff within the division of student success, where we are committed to the education of the whole person in a relationship to God, self, and others. Our everyday work should reflect the values of Catholic social teaching, including respect for human dignity. The co-curricular experiences of our young men and women should open the possibilities they have for living lives of service in the broader world beyond campus.
The Graduate Assistant will work to facilitate student learning and empowerment by advising student organizations, leading educational programs, promoting overall leadership development, and helping to foster and sustain a friendly campus climate for historically underrepresented students.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Cross-Cultural Center
Serve as a resource for all students.
Maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment in the Cross-Cultural Center (CCC).
Assist the Director with implementing any strategic initiatives led by CCC.
Co-supervise 1-2 Work Study undergraduate student employees each semester.
Be responsible for the daily general operations of the Cross-Cultural Center and readily represent the CCC through tabling, presentation, and student advising.
Advise student organizations as they maintain CCC's bulletin boards, produce a weekly/monthly newsletter for constituents, and maintain social media outlets. Design and lead programs in the CCC to meet the needs of undergraduate students, including but not limited to providing mentorship and promoting persistence.
Co-facilitate annual Student Leader Training(s) and New Student Orientation on various topics, including diversity, inclusion, belonging, leadership, and multiculturalism.
Assist the Director in outreach efforts with community constituents and vendors.
Collaborate and assist other areas in Student Affairs and Student Success.
Participate, collaborate, and assist in the programming and initiatives of the University, Student Success, and Student Affairs.
Perform other reasonable tasks related to the position.
The ALANA Network
Assist in planning and execution of annual cultural and educational events and programs alongside ALANA Network (encompassing all CCC student organizations), such as Hispanic Heritage Month, Native American Heritage Month, Black History Month, Multicultural Day, Women's History Month, Asian American Pacific Islander Week, and the Lunch and Learn Series.
Serves as the advisor to the ALANA Network and co-advises other CCC student organizations.
Plans and facilitates fall and spring training efforts for the ALANA Network executive officers training as needed.
Meets weekly with the ALANA Network executive officers to discuss their adjustment to college and leadership roles.
Required to attend all regularly scheduled ALANA Network executive officer meetings and advise any upcoming projects or programs.
Coordinates election of the ALANA Network executive officers.
Supervises a programming budget of approximately $18K and ensures appropriate expenditures.
Monitors all ALANA Network fund-raising activities.
Prepares ALANA executive officers for involvement in the annual CONNECTIONS ALANA/First-Generation Pre-Orientation Summer program.
Serves on the divisional student leader advisory group and assists in all events planned by the group.
Assists with the coordination of fall first-year student orientation.
Co-advises W.I.N.G.S. (women's group) with the Director of ALANA & First-Generation Student Success programming, or P.A.L.M.S. (men's group) along with the Vice President for Student Success.
Help to plan and co-host Cross Cultural Center-sponsored events and special programs usually held on evenings and weekends.
Plans and attends the annual CONNECTIONS ALANA/First-Generation Pre-Orientation Summer program.
Assist with program publicity and marketing, including the Office of Student Activities posting approval process (posters, social media, and TV advertisements).
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Applicants for this position must clearly articulate what diversity and inclusion mean to them.
The ability to create a welcoming environment, be approachable and kind, and communicate effectively with a diverse student population is preferred.
An interest in helping college students in their academic careers, training, and presentation skills is also desirable.

Bachelor's Degree required.
Experience in one or more areas: ALANA, Multicultural Affairs, and Cross-Cultural Centers.
Organizational skills, initiative, maturity, and commitment to community development.
Must be enrolled in an Assumption University Master's program. *Please indicate whether you are enrolled in an Assumption University Master's program at the time of application.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
SUPERVISE STUDENT EMPLOYEES
Hire, train, and manages student employees.
Assists with a payroll of student employees.
Plans and facilitates all training and projects for the work-study student employees.
Coordinates all scheduling for student employees.
SCOPE:
This is a part-time graduate assistant position with a workspace in the Cross-Cultural Center. The contract period is ten months and is renewable for up to 2 years. The work schedule is 20 hours each week divided between office, evening, and weekends.
COMPENSATION:
10-Month Position (August 1 - Mid-June)
No health benefits or retirement benefits
Stipend: $15 per hour, 20 hours per week
Tuition, 3 courses per semester if enrolled at Assumption University. *
*Tuition includes 3 courses in the Fall, 3 in the Spring 3, and 2 in the Summer (fees not included) until the graduate degree is completed or employment ends, whichever occurs first.
