Position Type : This is a full-time, exempt position. Subject Matter : While we look for teachers that can teach the breadth of our curriculum, this position is specifically looking for a teacher who is able to teach English. A flexible and innovative mindset is required. As content experts and students of best practice, Field teachers are expected to adapt to their students' learning interests and needs. Strong communication skills and a willingness to collaborate are also important, as Field teachers regularly work with other teachers, student support teams, department chairs and academic leadership to ensure that all of our students are being supported and challenged in accordance with our mission. Teachers are expected to teach assigned courses, serve as a student advisor, and facilitate school-wide programming. In order to serve all students as outlined above, teachers must be actively anti-racist in their approach to both their curriculum and to their interpersonal interactions with all community members. At the core, all teachers are expected to be committed learners. While Field is an independent school we are not independent of each other or our established academic standards. Faculty are members of the larger Field community and expected to shepard the values of the school. Duties and Responsibilities : Design and execute lessons, units, and assessments as determined by your department chair that are skill-based, culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate, and in line with the teaching model being used at the time (hybrid, fully in person, or fully virtual). Provide meaningful and timely feedback to students about their performance. Keep accurate records of student performance and attendance. Write narrative reports about each student’s skill development in the course. Maintain a classroom environment that addresses implicit and explicit bias, and that is inclusive of all students. Serve as a student advisor. Attend and engage in department, grade level, staff and other meetings. Engage in professional development as determined by your supervisor. Attend events outside of regular school hours as determined by your direct supervisor, whether virtual or on campus. Represent the school through admissions-related activities as requested. Other duties as assigned by the Head of School, Assistant Head of School, or Department Chair. Qualifications and Competencies : Have a degree in their content area from an accredited college or university. Masters and/or other advanced degrees are encouraged. Have content expertise, a strong knowledge of subject area skills, and an informed developmental understanding of the age group. Have an ability to develop strong, trusting relationships with students and families. Have an ability to create an anti-racist and culturally responsive classroom. Have strong communication skills. Have an ability and commitment to continuously grow and learn as a teacher. Have an ability to work creatively and flexibly in the classroom. Work Environment : Teachers may be asked to perform their work duties at home and/or on campus. In both settings, the teacher is required to maintain a professional environment. While on campus, classes may be operating either in person or in a distributed setting. Teachers are expected to be present and accessible for the entire school day, regardless of the setting. Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is active; it requires standing and walking, including stairs. Travel : Regular travel is not expected in this position.
