Examples Of Duties
Job Summary
This position coordinates, under the direction of the Director and Assessment and Research, and in collaboration with the Teaching and Learning leadership team, the development and support of TPS comprehensive assessment system, including District, State, College Board, and Classroom-Based Common Assessments; as directed, may provide a series of assessment coaching, training, and professional developments to cultivate a standard-based and equity-focused assessment culture.
Essential Job Functions
1. Aligns District assessment program activities with other departments and district initiatives in direct support of the Continuous Achievement Process (CAP) as well as Tacoma Public School Strategic Plan; facilitates cross-department efforts to create plan, establish process, and build Classroom-Based Common Assessments to support the Whole Child.
2. Leads and collaborates with cross-functional departments to develop Classroom-Based Common Assessment resources, training modules, and communication materials to enhance assessment literacy among all stakeholders; assists in maintaining and posting resources and information on TPS public and district websites, Microsoft365, and other platforms.
3. Conducts job-bedded, ongoing assessment coaching, training, and professional development(s) to support the development of Classroom-Based Common Assessments.
4. Coordinates all phases of assessment projects from planning, execution, troubleshooting, to lessons learned and/or project summary reports; coordinates and negotiates timelines with the vendors, local scoring services, and the District Departments; monitors contract compliance of consultants and/or contracted agencies for the purpose of ensuring a high-quality comprehensive assessment system.
5. Develops, compiles, and maintains procedure manuals for the District-wide assessment program; establishes timelines, prepares for and conducts regularly scheduled meetings and trainings with building staff; provides technical assistance to building principals, school assessment coordinators, and appropriate TPS administrators for student assessments.
6. Prepares and presents assessment summary reports and presentations for building administrators, school assessment coordinators, management team, and Board of Directors; responds to staff and community inquiries regarding student assessments for the purpose of coordinating some aspects of the student assessment program.
7. Assists with the development of a variety of new District assessment materials, including selection of test items, developing test administration manuals, assists in the assessment blueprint development, and preparation of training materials; maintains documentation on assessment development activities for the purpose of assisting in development of assessment materials.

1. Maintains and updates knowledge and skills required for success in the position by participating in professional development activities as needed or as assigned.
2. Performs special research and prepares special reports.
3. May provide lead direction for departmental and temporary assessment support staff.
4. Oversees equipment inventory for department.
5. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationships
Reports to Assessment Director or assigned Administrator.
Conditions
Office environment; requires prolonged visual concentration and exposure to video display; required to work overtime as needed; experiences frequent interruptions; may be required to attend meetings at various sites.

Bachelor’s degree in related field, and three years of experience maintaining detailed data and numeric records; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
