Long Beach Community College is seeking a qualified individual for a current opportunity as an Administrative Support Specialist. This incumbent will need to have knowledge performing a variety of difficult, responsible, sensitive, and confidential office administrative and secretarial support functions for an Executive or Administrator level management team member. We are looking for someone who has obtained graduation from high school or GED equivalency. Additionally, this incumbent needs an Associate's degree; five years of increasingly responsible office administrative or secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The ideal candidate also has experience using word processing and other applicable software, drafts and types materials, memoranda, correspondence, reports, agendas, presentations, budgets, forms, and other documents often of a highly sensitive and confidential nature.

Eligibility list:
We reserve the right to use an established eligibility list for vacancies in this classification. The eligibility list will be valid for 12 months once approved by the Personnel Commission.

Duties
JOB DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, performs a variety of difficult, responsible, sensitive and confidential office administrative and secretarial support functions for an Executive or Administrator level management team member, and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Administrative Support Specialist is responsible for providing a wide array of complex, diverse and confidential secretarial, administrative and support services to an Executive or Administrator level management team member. Incumbents operate in an environment characterized by involvement in broad District-wide issues and interaction with top management and Board members on complex and sensitive matters.
Administrative Support Specialist is distinguished from Senior Administrative Assistant in that incumbents in the former class perform a variety of difficult, sensitive and confidential support services for an Executive or Administrator level management team member, requiring a higher degree of independent judgment and a thorough knowledge of District functions, policies, procedures, and web services.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
Education, Training and Experience:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; an Associate's degree; and five years of increasingly responsible office administrative or secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.
Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.

To be considered a candidate for this position, all materials required should be received by the Long Beach City College Office of Human Resources by the closing date. Incomplete or late applications will be disqualified from further consideration. Qualified candidates will be notified in writing if they are moving forward in the selection process.

If the position requires a college degree, transcripts or copy of a diploma, the required document must be attached at the time of application. Unofficial transcripts are accepted during this phase. For experience substitution in lieu of education, please make sure to attach a statement clearly outlining how your additional experience covers the education requirement, on a year-for-year basis, and qualifies you to be considered for this position.
If you participate in and fail any examination segment, you must wait a period of 90 days (~3 months) to test again for the same classification.
