Description:
At the University of Plymouth, we have a proud 150-year heritage and a sustained legacy of success in advancing knowledge and transforming lives. The only modern University with a medical and dental school, we are also a top 50 research university with clusters of world-class research across areas including Marine, Sustainability, Health and the Arts. Awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize three times, in 2022 we were also shortlisted for the Times Higher Education University of the Year Award. The University’s 2030 strategy sets out our ambition to provide thought-leadership, set policy agendas locally, nationally and internationally, and to communicate and engage effectively with all stakeholders, achieving influence and impact through significant partnerships. The Research and Innovation Directorate plays a crucial role in supporting the University in this ambition, working with academics from across the breadth of the institution’s portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity, therefore, to be at the heart of the delivery of our strategy. We are looking for an experienced, creative and enthusiastic individual to join our team, with a track record of successfully supporting academics to effectively translate their research and deliver real world impact. The University is already highly ranked for elements of its KE portfolio including IP commercialisation, providing SMEs access to its facilities, and student enterprise. We also have a well established access point for businesses looking to engage with the University’s expertise. We are looking to build upon these foundations and deliver innovative sector leading KE across our whole portfolio. Reporting directly to the Director of Research and Innovation, the Head of Knowledge Exchange is responsible for the strategic leadership of the University’s knowledge exchange activities, enabling academic colleagues to maximise the impact of their research through the full range of KE activities including commercialisation, business innovation (including KTPs), support for key sectors, public engagement, and student enterprise. Key to this is building and deepening partnerships with business and other external organisations to support the University’s mission. The role has oversight of the University’s Enterprise Solutions service as well as The Cube – the University’s student entrepreneurship programme. You will have a background in strategic leadership of a range of Knowledge Exchange activities, and engaging both academics and external stakeholders at a senior level. Experience of effective leadership and creating high performing teams is also essential, as are exceptional communication skills, in particular the ability to facilitate discussions between academia and external partners, in the development of programmes and projects that deliver mutual benefits. Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement. For an informal discussion to find out more about the role then please contact Adrian Dawson, Director of Research & Innovation by email **** We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. We also offer a range of other benefits, including ongoing development opportunities. A relocation package is available with this role conditions apply. Interviews are likely to take place Friday 9 June 2023 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not. This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis.
