POSITION SUMMARY
The Career Coach provides individual coaching to students that are undecided or exploring major/career options. Possesses a working knowledge of career advising, college curriculum, policy, and campus resources Provides structured Guided Academic Pathway training and resources for faculty advisors and success coaches campus-wide, to ensure all students begin guided major/career exploration within their first year. Assists with clarifying educational goals, leading students to establish a clear pathway to successfully complete identified coursework, certificate, or degree requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Demonstrate mastery of Guided Academic Pathway model in order to train faculty advisors and success coaches campus-wide with the goal that all students begin guided major/career exploration within their first year.
2. Develop and execute formal career exploration and academic pathway trainings for all campus advisors, based on the Guided Academic Pathway principles.
3. Evaluate and update resources for advisors and coaches.
4. Assist undecided and exploring students by guiding major and career exploration using self-assessment (values, skills, strengths, personality and interests) relating to the world of work.
5. Provide educational and career coaching to support a student's/alumni ability to develop a guided academic plan/map that meets their identified educational and career goals, as well as support their motivation to persist.
6. Coordinate career development programs, initiatives, and interventions for a caseload of undecided students.
7. Actively provide knowledge, support, and direction that will increase educational direction, completion of developmental sequence, and exploration of their career outlook and academic pathway.
8. Collaborate with faculty, faculty advisors, and student development staff members.
9. Per established guidelines, determine when students need to be referred to appropriate college resources for further educational planning, advising, and support.
10. Coordinate, design and implement presentations on career planning, professional development and job search topics.
11. Support academic intervention priorities that are identified by the college.
12. Monitor data that informs proactive outreach efforts to connect with academically challenged students, which may include providing follow-up with students placed on academic caution and probation.
13. Attend advisor trainings and collaborating with academic support and student development departments to stay abreast of appropriate referral resources, understand student trends across the institution, and share aggregated results of coaching sessions that may impact other areas of the college.
14. Maintain confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students and others who may obtain coaching services.
15.Track and record all student contact (phone, email, appointments) to ensure data/analytics are measurable for reporting purposes.
16.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
17. Perform related duties as assigned
MINMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1.
Bachelor's degree in education, social and behavioral sciences, or related field.
2.
Two (2) years of previous experience with career, vocational, training and
development and/or academic advising.
3.
Ability to guide students through the career development process (self-assessment,
career exploration, decision making and job search strategies).
4.
Knowledge of career development theory/practice, job search strategies,
employment trends, and current career resources.
5.
Experience designing and presenting programs and workshops on career related
topics.
6.
Strong computer skills and familiarity with career guidance and career assessment
software; and, effective use of technologies that support coaching best practices.
7.
Demonstrated skill in working with diverse student populations who represent a
wide range of abilities, ages, ethnic groups, and national origins as well as LGBT
issues and adult populations.
8.
Willingness to follow ethical guidelines for counseling and placement (American
Counseling Association, National Career Development Association and National
Association of Colleges & Employers).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.
Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Higher Education, Student Affairs or
related field.
2.
Experience in administering and interpreting career assessment instruments
utilized in career decision-making, specifically the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
(MBTI) and Strong Interest Inventory.
3.
Experience coaching and supporting students within the community college
environment.
4. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
5. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
6.
Previous experience in Career Services, Career Development or a Placement Office.

WORKING CONDITIONS
1.
Duties are performed indoors in the usual office environment.
2.
Travel and work between campuses; and, some evenings and weekend required.
