The Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. invites applications for a full-time Senior Lecturer, to begin September 1, 2022, for an initial three-year term, renewable on a five-year basis. Course load will be two courses each term, a combination of Modern Greek language instruction and other Hellenic Studies courses, depending on the curricular needs of the Seeger Center and student demand. Responsibilities include teaching modern Greek language at the introductory, intermediate and/or advanced levels, aiming at linguistic proficiency, as well as transcultural fluency and intellectual engagement with modern Greek culture in its broader, local and global contexts. There will also be regular opportunities for teaching or co-teaching introductory or upper-level topics courses in Hellenic Studies, as well as for additional on-site teaching at the Princeton Athens Center during the summer months. Reporting to the Seeger Center Director and the Program in Hellenic Studies Director in their respective areas of responsibility, the successful candidate will also serve as Associate Director for Teaching, Learning, and Public Service, coordinating the modern Greek language and culture curriculum, supporting certain academic offerings at the undergraduate and graduate levels, running Hellenic Studies teaching and learning programs, and managing co-curricular and public service initiatives on campus and in Greece.
The successful candidate must have the Ph.D. degree in a relevant academic discipline, with a strong record of publications, as well as proven intellectual and professional commitment to the field of Modern Greek Studies and a minimum of six years of teaching experience, preferably including substantial administrative service in higher education. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in the classroom, both as a teacher of modern Greek language and culture and as instructor in humanities courses at the college level. Candidates with comparative, interdisciplinary, and cross-cultural interests are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates whose work in Modern Greek Studies engages with the reception and transmission of Hellenic culture across historical periods, regions, media, and/or cultural spheres. Expertise in the following areas would be strong assets for this position: proficiency-based and/or culture-based approaches to language instruction; experience with on-site teaching internationally; collaborative academic projects with Greek scholars and institutions; academic administration, including supervision of teaching staff.
