The Department of Communication and the Arts within the emerging College of Human Development, Culture, and Media at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a scholar of Communication with a specialty in Public Relations who will teach across our undergraduate (BA) and graduate (MA) Communication programs.
The successful candidate will have an active research agenda in Communication, specifically Public Relations, and ideally in relation to Crisis Communication, Strategic Communication, Organizational Communication, and/or Business Communication.
Duties and Responsibilities:
In addition, competitive candidates should have experience teaching in person, online, and hybrid courses in one or more of the following areas: Public Relations; Crisis Communication; or Business Communication. We are very interested in candidates who can help develop curriculum and design new courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will also contribute to graduate education, including thesis/master’s project mentorship.
The new faculty member will advise students and be an active service member in the College and University. They will support and contribute to the College’s culture of diversity, equity and inclusivity and participate in an interdisciplinary community dedicated to creative collaboration.
This position entails a 18-credit teaching requirement during the Fall and Spring semesters, commensurate with Department needs, and is expected to begin in August 2023.
Responsibilities include teaching courses in both the Communication major and the Communication graduate program; conducting impactful research and publishing scholarly work related to Communication; advising students; and contributing to program development and coordination. Faculty are also expected to be active members of the College and the broader University community. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to:
*Engage in visionary program building, including a keen focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as the identification and implementation of courses and programs in related interdisciplinary areas, particularly Education and Human Services;
*Teach regularly across the B.A. in Communication curriculum in existing undergraduate classes such as, but not limited to: Writing for the Media; PR Research, Data and Insights; Intro to PR; Crisis Communication; Public and Presentational Communication; and Senior Seminar;
*Teach regularly across the M.A. in Communication curriculum in existing graduate classes such as but not limited to: Theory and Principles of PR; Reputation Management; Communication Research Methods (qualitative); and Master’s Thesis;
*Maintain ties to the professional community (e.g., Public Relations Society of America, accrediting bodies, etc.);
*Lead co-curricular activities, which may include the Public Relations Student Society of America, Bateman Case Study Competition team, Litore Agency, Points of PRide, or Lambda Pi Eta;
*Participate actively in academic advisement, high-impact student learning activities, student mentoring, and other co- and extracurricular engagement activities;
*Commit to innovative recruitment and retention initiatives of both students and adjunct instructors;
*Create new courses on topics related to the candidate’s area of expertise; and
*Commit to collaboration in growing a new, interdisciplinary college.

Launching in Fall 2023, the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media will bring together programs in education; human services; digital and visual media and design; the performing arts; arts and society; and communication. The College is envisioned to deliver strong disciplinary preparation and explore new areas to prepare students to excel in the fields of education, human services, communication and the arts and more.

Required Qualifications:
*Ph.D. in Communication/Communication Studies, Media Studies, Journalism, or a related field (degree completion is required by August 2023) with a specialty in Public Relations; and
*Evidence that the candidate will be able to develop a successful publication record appropriate for an R2 institution.
