Associate Director of Equipment Operations
to join their team on campus. The individual assigned to this position serves as the Associate Director of Equipment Operations and oversees the equipment operations for 14 NCAA Division I sports and its equipment facilities. The person assigned to this position assists with the establishment of internal policies within the framework of the NCAA, Big Sky Conference, and University of Montana (UM) guidelines, best practices, and policies.
The individual assigned to this role is responsible for the following:
Procurement of athletic equipment for all teams
Inventory controls and security
Management of a large budget
Directing all laundry operations
Oversight of the student equipment manager program
Working directly with coaches, manufacturing representatives and retailers to determine equipment and apparel needs, research emerging equipment innovations and upgrades, negotiate purchases and delivery timelines, and monitor contracts while working within budgetary guidelines
Specifically, concerning duties within the football program, this position serves as the equipment coordinator for football and is able to act on decisions related to the overall operation of this function. This includes:
Developing the budget (with the Head Football Coach) and monitoring expenses
Researching, choosing, ordering, inventorying and properly maintaining all helmets, apparel, and gear
Providing fittings and adjustments of equipment for individual players
Extensive research on latest innovations within football equipment regarding player safety, cost efficiency, and comfort
The person assigned to this role is also charged with fulfilling the essential duties within the areas of responsibility listed below:
Football Operations
Oversee all equipment needs for the football program
Meet with football staff daily to discuss equipment needs and is available for all practices, all games, and pre and post season events
Determines necessary equipment needs (adjustments to equipment are needed based on position, injuries or personal comfort; general fittings; safety checks; alterations; changes due to weather or playing surface)
Communicates regularly with Athletic Medical Staff on alterations due to injuries
Researches new products, upgrades, or innovations that may promote safety, comfort, improved image, budgetary savings, etc.
Serve as the liaison with external servicer for the On-Field Communications (CoachComm headsets)
Execute the maintenance agreement with service provider, ensure proper training has occurred, communicate problems and needs for service provider
Equipment Operations
Provides administrative guidance and oversight for equipment operations
Meet regularly with Football head coach and operations staff to determine that their needs are being met in terms of customer service, product quality, safety, research needs, timeliness, etc.
Works with the director to address areas of need based on feedback provided by coaching and operations employees
Provides guidance and supervision for the procurement of athletics equipment and supplies for the football program
Research electronic inventory systems.
Provides guidance or determines vendors, styles, quantities, delivery and warrantees for products
Ensures student equipment managers are monitoring compliance with NCAA guidelines and safety standards
Provides supervision to the operation of all laundries under control of the Department of Athletics
Apparel Contract Administration
Partners with Director to provide oversight of the Athletics Department apparel, shoe and equipment contracts
Assure all contract monies are utilized to their maximum amount(s)
Works with Director when negotiating new contracts and identifying areas that should be included or excluded in our requests to meet the needs of our sports programs
Provides input and performs research and evaluation in regard to various marketing and development projects for special procurements and promotions (Such as auction items, special apparel sales, jersey throw-backs)
Athletic Department employees and those University employees outside the Athletic Department with NCAA rules compliance responsibilities are subject at all times to NCAA Bylaws 10.1 and 11.1 regarding ethical conduct and the responsibility to positively contribute to a campus culture of NCAA rules compliance. Failure to conduct oneself as such will result in disciplinary or corrective action up to and including immediate discharge.

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, 12 month, Letter of Appointment Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package

Knowledge of how to equate athletes’ measurements to manufactory's sizing
Ability to properly interpret and apply rules and regulations which apply to athletic equipment

Knowledge of product identification and ability to calculate data

Highly developed knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations

Knowledge of contract language and contract negotiation
Supervisory skills
Knowledge of personnel management principles
Knowledge of departmental, team and governing body guidelines or the ability to learn these guidelines
Minimum Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in a related field, as well as at least three (3) years of directly related professional work experience; or any combination of experience and education that would provide the competencies required to successfully discharge the essential duties assigned to this position
