invites applications for a part-time
Director of the Office of Undergraduate Research
to join their team on campus. The director of the Office of Undergraduate Research at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (OUR@UM) will work to enrich and support undergraduate research across the disciplines at UM. While the director will play a key role in defining OUR@UM’s scope and metrics for success, responsibilities will likely include:
Partnering with the Broader Impacts Group, the Office of Research and Creative Scholarship, the Davidson Honors College, the UM Conference on Undergraduate Research (UMCUR) faculty steering committee, and other undergraduate research stakeholders to create a mission and strategic priorities for OUR@UM
Overseeing UMCUR and identifying new opportunities to expand and enhance the conference experience for undergraduate researchers and audiences
Partnering with UM faculty to expand the university’s portfolio of external funding to support undergraduate research.
Leading the launch of a UM undergraduate research journal
Developing OUR@UM as a gateway for undergraduates interested in exploring research opportunities, connecting with potential faculty mentors, and developing research competencies
Supporting faculty through professional development resources and trainings in research mentorship
Identifying external funding sources for undergraduate research and supporting faculty in pursing these opportunities
Developing an OUR@UM website to serve as a portal for faculty, students, and public audiences
Communicating the impact of undergraduate research to the UM and external communities
Partnering with and seeking input from the many stakeholders involved in undergraduate research at UM, including departments and colleges, faculty, students, prospective employers, the Office of Research and Creative Scholarship, the Office of Experiential Learning and Career Success, the UMCUR faculty steering committee, and others

Position Details
Position is part-time, 0.5 FTE, Letter of Appointment. Position includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package
including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, and wellness program.
Salary for this position is $55,000 to $65,000 per year at 1.0 FTE commensurate with experience
Minimum Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years’ professional experience in higher education
Experience conducting research in any academic field and/or working in a research setting
Experience supervising employees
Experience communicating and collaborating effectively with diverse audiences and stakeholders
Ability to lead and maintain accountability for collaborative planning efforts such as setting mission and vision, strategic planning, and program development
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree Demonstrated success mentoring and/or involving undergraduates in research
Experience developing and overseeing public engagement events such as conferences, symposia, or other educational programming
Experience advising students, formally or informally
Experience leading professional development trainings
Experience writing successful grant proposals and/or supporting grant proposal development
Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration
Working knowledge of high impact educational practices related to student engagement, retention, and success
About the Office of Undergraduate Research and UM
Office of Undergraduate Research at UM will be part of UM’s Broader Impacts Group, which fosters a community of practice around research and creative scholarship activities that broaden participation in higher education and the workforce, create educational and economic opportunity, and benefit society locally and globally. OUR@UM’s mission statement will be developed collaboratively following the director’s appointment.
