The Arts and Humanities Division at Howard Community College is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic faculty candidate with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning to be the Chair of the Dance and Theatre Department. Criteria include performing arts department chair, budget management and supervisory experience; evidence of excellence in teaching and production, and commitment to the community college philosophy and mission.
The Department Chair is a full-time, budgeted faculty who works collaboratively with the Dean, the Associate Dean, other Department Chairs, and Program Coordinators, and reports directly to the Dean of Arts and Humanities. The role of the Chair is to provide effective and innovative leadership of the Dance and Theatre Department. Major responsibilities may include: supervision of full-time faculty (including instruction, professional development, promotion, and advancement); development and management of departmental budgets and purchasing; oversight of schedule building, enrollment management and curricular development (program and course); implementation and tracking of core work metrics, learning outcomes assessment, accreditation standards, and student evaluations; facilitation of student academic complaint procedures and code of conduct violations; and leadership in visioning and strategic planning for the department.
Requirements:
Master's degree in either a dance or theatre discipline
A minimum of 5 years community college teaching experience
Department chair experience in the performing arts
Experience working with diverse student populations desirable
Experience in either dance or theatre production
Evidence of effective and innovative leadership
Experience in supervision of full-time faculty and/or staff
Experience in development and management of departmental budgets and purchasing
Experience in course schedule building, enrollment management and curricular development
Commitment to the community college philosophy and mission
