Job Summary:
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will support a US-DOE funded project on organic interactions at the mineral-solution interface. The initial appointment will be for 6 months with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2021 with possible extension up to 18 additional months.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Assists in providing solutions to research goals by coordinating and directing the implementation of classroom/recess-research based study across project sites; collaborating with grant team including lead contacts at school sites; coordinating on research design, including development of dependent measures, classroom-based observation tools, and teacher assessment systems, including qualtrics based surveys.
2. Conducts research by applying expertise in research methods and utilizing specialist knowledge; analyzing a wide range of descriptive, qualitative and statistical information; documenting research sources.
3. Assists in communicating research results by formulating research reports and presentations; preparing a variety of technical reports and research publications; applying editorial skills and technical skills.
4. Provides general Lab Management and direct graduate students.
5. Analyzes data and completes manuscripts for publication.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience
:
Ph.D. in Geology, Chemistry, Soil Science, or a related STEM Field.
Experience with teaching and/or research in Geology, Chemistry, or Soil Science.
Preferred Education & Experience:
Strong quantitative skills.
Direct research experience in organic geochemistry, biogeochemistry, and/or sorption mechanisms.
Strong working knowledge of physical and surface chemistry.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of presentation and interpersonal relationship techniques.
Knowledge of customer service techniques.
Skill in PowerPoint, web-authoring and spreadsheets.
Skill in performing research.
Skill in training for workshops.
Skill in editing written and graphical communication.
Ability to evaluate and make recommendations to improve research methods.
Ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Ability to analyze and accurately interpret information contained in a variety of data sets.
Ability to accurately document research results. Ability to work in a dynamic environment and support co-workers and grad students working on related projects
Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 20 lbs.
Work Environment:
Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
This role is on-campus and in-person.
