The San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) Applied Technology Division seeks a creative faculty member with a demonstrated commitment to student success for a full-time tenure track position. The successful candidate will exhibit a passion for teaching and will have an opportunity to lead a growing Aviation Maintenance program and to work collaboratively with the college's other departments to build an integrated program that offers multiple academic and/or professional pathways. Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to integrating equity and inclusion in all aspects of their work. The faculty will also collaborate with local aviation companies and major airlines to establish internships, Registered Apprenticeships, and other employment opportunities for students.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Teach a full load of classes, incorporating equitable teaching practices.
Create course materials, such as syllabi, lectures, homework, quizzes, exams, lab manuals, etc.
Evaluate and grade students' homework, laboratory work, and assignments
Work collegially with the faculty and staff of the division to advance student success
Participate in department, division and campus meetings and activities.
Participate in assessment of student learning outcomes, community outreach, departmental website development, curriculum development, and program review processes.
Participate in regular professional development activity.
Effectively develop and maintain culturally-sensitive and equity-minded learning environments.
Beyond the learning environment, demonstrate cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity minded practice.
Provide a safe and positive educational environment conducive to effective learning.
Provide instruction and student support in a variety of formats and deliveries such as online, in-person, hybrid, hyflex, fast-track, accelerated, etc.
Maintain current knowledge in the discipline and engage in innovative methods of effective in-person and online education.
Positively engage students, promote development of critical thinking skills, collaboration, and empathy.
Maintain professional and ethical standards.
Participate in AMT pathway development through outreach with high schools, 4-year universities, and industry.
Participate in recruitment, outreach, and development of cooperative work experience opportunities for students.
Provide the training required for AMT students in accordance with the FAA operating procedures and guidelines.
Provide the skills and knowledge required for competency in the field of aircraft maintenance, including use of reference materials, tools, equipment and technology.
Provide an in-depth knowledge of mechanic privileges, limitations and responsibilities, including a working knowledge of the Federal Aviation Regulations.
Maintain accurate records in accordance with the policies, rules, regulations, and procedures of the FAA.
Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreements, and general institutional needs.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of related experience; OR
Associate's degree and six (6) years of related experience
Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
Possession of a valid lifetime California Community College credential authorizing service as an instructor in Aviation Maintenance Technology; OR
A current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe & Powerplant Certificate (Instructors must meet the FAA eligibility requirements of FAR 147.23).
Desired Qualifications:
Recent industry experience, including the knowledge of employment opportunities and requirements in all areas of the aviation maintenance industry.
Capable of teaching all courses in the Aviation Maintenance Technician Program.
Teaching experience in a variety of formats and deliveries such as online, in-person, hybrid, hyflex, fast-track, accelerated, etc.
Evidence of commitment to practicing culturally-responsive instruction, providing students with a plurality of perspectives, engaging in equity-based efforts.
Evidence of supporting holistic well-being and sense of belonging of all students.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with aviation employers to develop industry-sponsored programs.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to develop and maintain articulation programs and agreements within the aviation industry with secondary schools and four-year colleges and universities.
Demonstrated knowledge of the training needs of aircraft maintenance employers and employees.
Demonstrated knowledge of Federal Aviation regulations including ATA codes, required inspections, and FAA documentation requirements.
Organizational and computer expertise, including the ability to use technology in the classroom.

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to occasionally lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 25 pounds; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Vision
See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.
Hearing
Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
