The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) is an independent research center at the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.. IHME carries out its mission through a range of projects within different research areas including the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors (GBD); Future Health Scenarios; Cost Effectiveness and Efficiency; Resource Tracking; and Impact Evaluations. IHME has an excellent opportunity for a Gender Research Specialist to join the Gender Equality Metrics team. We are looking for someone ready to advance in their career in global health research. As a Gender Research Specialist, you will interface with the technical team to understand the core research activities across our portfolio, and translate the scientific underpinnings, results, and implications for internal and external communication purposes. You will work across GBD teams to enable the systematic and effective integration of gender considerations into research streams. GBD teams analyze and produce key estimates for their research areas and assess all available relevant quantitative data including those on causes of death, epidemiology, and a range of determinants such as education and income from surveys, vital registration, censuses, literature, registries, and administrative records. You will provide feedback on gaps identified or opportunities for improvement. You will be integrally involved in advising GBD teams on designing strategies to integrate gender perspective into various aspects of the research activities.


You will translate high quality analyses into key insights and recommendations, and critique, improve, and translate results for dissemination. Working with IHME media and communications staff in partnership with external stakeholders, you will generate materials for a broad range of internal and external audiences, including senior leadership, technical, policy makers, academic, and lay readers. As part of the Gender Equality Metrics team, you will facilitate relationship management with a global Advisory Group, including facilitating meetings, soliciting input on the analytical process, and engaging on dissemination and uptake.


You already have a command of epidemiology, statistics, disease modeling, or related interests, and have experience and familiarity in the field of gender equality; we will help you develop an understanding of our core research and methodology. You will have a demonstrated interest in research related to measuring gender equality. This role works with senior research leads and external collaborators and take part in the intellectual exchange about how to improve upon and disseminate the results.


You are expected to interact successfully with a wide range of partners and to describe complex concepts and materials concisely. Overall, the Gender Research Specialist is a critical member of an agile, dynamic research team. This position is contingent on project funding availability.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop a command of gender equality research methodology and its components.
Develop an understanding GBD-level metrics, analytical considerations, and results.
Identify, plan and execute opportunities to integrate gender perspective into quantitative analyses and statistical modeling to produce results designated on a given timeline as part of collaborative research projects.
Liaise with external stakeholders and collaborators to solicit and incorporate feedback into GBD and Gender Equality Metrics team analyses.
Review, assess, and translate results into a wide range of formats for dissemination and uptake. Write and produce custom content such as reports, briefs, web content, blog posts, and presentations that communicate key aspects of complex research projects in concise and comprehensible ways for decision-makers, policy influencers, and other key stakeholders.
Lead discussion in research meetings about results and analyses to vet, improve, and finalize results.
Lead the creation of presentations, manuscripts, and funding proposals, co-author papers, and other written materials.
Maintain scientific awareness and intellectual agility with developments in the field of gender research, policy, data, and results.
Other duties as assigned that fall within reasonable scope of research team.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
PhD degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, quantitative social sciences, or related discipline plus six years' related experience or Masters degree plus eight years experience.


Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Understand and have experience in gender mainstreaming/integration within large program teams and/or operational settings.
Knowledge of gender analysis coupled with a capability to communicate clearly to others how to take a gender-intentional approach to address a variety of development-sector challenges.
Proven interest and some experience in the field of gender equality and related methodological research, and with the relevant data sources and scientific underpinnings.
Strong analytic, critical thinking, and quantitative skills.
Adept diplomacy and exemplary interpersonal skills required. Must be agile at forming respectful and rewarding relationships with people with different levels of experience and expertise from a variety of cultural, linguistic, and professional settings to achieve team goals for the analyses and related outputs.
Results- and detail-oriented individual who can initiate and complete tasks under tight deadlines and changing priorities both independently and in a team environment. Flexibility with hours and workload is key.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, as well as excellent facilitation and public speaking skills.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred background in Womens Studies, Social Science, or related fields focused on gender issues.
Track record of success in co-authorship on scientific papers, presenting results, and representing research at meetings.
Gender strategy development and implementation related experience at the international level preferred, ideally within a public health program.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Weekend and evening work sometimes required.
