About the Position:
The Division of Information Technology strives to be a strategic, innovative and best-in-class IT organization that provides a leading-edge technology environment for students, faculty and staff to advance the University's mission, vision and goals. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Unit/Department Name team as the Network Analyst-Career. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under the Information Technology Division, Information Technology Network Security and Telecommunication, the Network Analyst designs, implements, operates, and maintains the campus network and telecommunication infrastructure. Under the general direction of the Director of Network Security and Telecommunication, the Network Analyst is responsible for independently designing, implementing, and maintaining the campus network infrastructure and relevant network security. The Network Analyst supports network infrastructure in wired, wireless, and other communication methods. This includes, but is not limited to, the campus network security, network operation, network monitoring, and network performance baseline. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college of university in Computer Science, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Telecommunications or a related field or the equivalent training and work experience. Foundational knowledge and skills in technical, information network systems. Basic knowledge of telecommunications and transmission technologies, including network architecture, topologies, protocols, and programming applications and interfaces. Knowledge of network architecture, configuration, protocols, and interconnectivity requirements for internal and external information transmission. Ability to use engineering techniques in the design of network and transmission systems. Basic understanding of system functionality and components. Ability to interpret data on system usage and develop engineering specifications to support changing service levels. Ability to interpret and apply broad regulatory standards and technical specifications to assignments. Ability to monitor and manage vendor relationships to ensure responsiveness and quality. Knowledge of communication transmission technologies such as circuit and packet switching and satellite uplink. Knowledge of network traffic and performance parameters to interpret variance and service impact to users. Ability to analyze network and systems problems using appropriate test structures and related diagnostics such as protocol analyzer, T-bert analyzer and spectrum analyzer. Ability to operate applicable network equipment and application software programs. Understanding of information distribution systems access and security systems. Ability to resolve impaired service conflicts. Understanding of connectivity, system integration, and traffic issues. Ability to determine the most cost-effective structure and design for networks. General knowledge of telecommunication network design, topology, systems interface, and protocols to meet support requirements. Understanding of telephone switching technology support, data/video communications, and transmission media and their performance capabilities. Knowledge of telecommunications and video industry standards. Ability to use specified software application packages and the query, utility, or report generation features and database systems. Ability to translate user-defined requirements into telecommunication specifications and features. Ability to install network subsystems and modify local, customized software programs and features including voice mail, electronic mail, and telecom features. Ability to interpret variance reports and resolve connectivity, traffic, and congestion problems as they impact services provided. Ability to work independently and be fully proficient in performing most or all work assignments.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of four (4) years in Network Administration or Network Security and holds industry (vendor) certifications in Networking / Security or System. Experience working with the Network, Firewall, IDS, IPS, SIEM, Switching, Routing, VPN, IP, DNS, etc. Knowledge of Linux, Scripting, Server administration, and public cloud infrastructure.
