Description:
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the cutting-edge, interdisciplinary Centre for Health Technology (CHT). You will have the opportunity to work with colleagues specialising in digital health, software engineering, psychology, and health services research to deliver and contribute to evaluating and implementing innovative technologies, services, and approaches to transform health and social care. You will have the opportunity to pursue a PhD associated with this project; PhD fees for the post holder will be funded for the three-year fixed-term contract. You will be managing the day-to-day running of an evaluation of a digital health system for people with Parkinson’s disease (PwP). Parkinson’s disease can cause a wide range of non-motor symptoms, including pain and problems with mental health, memory and sleep. The system you will be evaluating was designed with PwP and their care partners to provide self-management support for families and facilitate timely clinical interventions. The study aims to establish evidence of the impact of the system on patient confidence, knowledge, and skills for self-management of NMS, symptom burden, and quality of life of PwP and their care partners. We anticipate that the use of this system will result in improved quality of life and increased knowledge and confidence for managing symptoms while safely reducing the time spent by health care professionals on manageable non-motor symptoms. In addition to this project, you will be involved with other digital health research centred on supporting physical activity, nutrition, mental health and other domains to promote positive health outcomes. A key objective of this research stream within CHT is the design and development of inclusive digital solutions to assure equity in access to innovation. You will have the opportunity to hone your skills in mixed-methods research through this project while working towards your PhD. Specific activities you will be engaged in will include: Project management. Conducting literature reviews. Executive semi-structured interviews. Analysing quantitative and qualitative data (with statistical and thematic analyses). Preparing papers for publication. You will be supported and supervised by Dr Meinert and his staff. You will have a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline; for example, computing science, software engineering, health services research, psychology, nutrition. You will have excellent communication skills, including presenting research and preparing papers for publication. You will have the ability to work independently to solve problems and carry out high-quality research. You are familiar with mixed methods, including semi-structured interviews, thematic analysis, survey development, and descriptive statistics. You will have the ability to balance and prioritise a varied workload and work under pressure to meet deadlines. You are comfortable and have experience with working collaboratively and presenting research findings.
