Department Description
Department Purpose
Student Health and Counseling Services provides primary care, mental health, urgent care, laboratory, pharmacy, health education and counseling services to registered UC Davis students. SHCS serves approximately 300 patients per day during the school year. The mission is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to successfully achieve their academic goals and life-long wellness. SHCS has approximately 160 staff including managers, senior professionals, professional and support staff, student employees, interns and post doc residents. SHCS is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), and IACS (International Association for Counseling Services). Under direction of the Director of Quality Improvement and the Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS) Risk Manager, this position provides programmatic support to the SHCS Quality Improvement and Risk Management Programs with functions related to compliance, quality assurance, risk management and accreditation. Under general supervision, answer phone line to direct incoming calls to the correct resource for public health campus response activities. Provide other administrative support as needed to support campus response activities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

****This position is subject to pre-placement screening provided by Occupational Health Services. Pre-placement screening will consist infection control testing that includes blood tests for TB screening and other infectious diseases and may include a physical exam, provided by Occupational Health Services, given at no charge to the applicant. This is done to meet Federal, State and University requirements.
Position may, at times, require employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infection diseases are present.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Experience:
Experience working independently to achieve goals and to meet timelines in a fast-paced environment.
Writing and editing experience to produce policies and procedures, meeting minutes, correspondence and reports and presentations.
Experience handling difficult, sensitive and/or confidential issues including customer service experience with confidential information.
Experience in a position that independent judgment, problem-solving skills and originality are required.
Experience using various software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, database programs, and/or interactive web environment software) and electronic calendaring.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
Demonstrated organizational skills that reflect skills to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of and working with a Practice Management Database and/or Electronic Health Record system.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Education/Experience:
Previous release of information, health records, or other related experience in a healthcare environment as well as experience performing administrative support functions in an executive-level office environment.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
Knowledge of Release of Information standards, policies & procedures and state and federal privacy regulations as well as the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of medical information at all times.
Demonstrated knowledge to comprehend simple medical terminology.
Ability to work professionally, effectively, and efficiently in a team environment with all customers as well as the ability to be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service response.
Convey a helpful and positive attitude to the public as well as work independently, establish priorities and exercise good judgment.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of State and Federal laws through literature, classes, seminars and on-the-job training.
Refer to supervisor when appropriate.
Working knowledge of workstation ergonomics and appropriate body mechanics.
