JOB OVERVIEW
The College of Arts & Sciences within **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. seeks candidates for three tenure-track positions at the level of Assistant Professor in discipline-based educational research (DBER) in any of the following: Biological Sciences, English, Physics, Psychology, and Romance & Arabic Languages and Literature (RALL). Each position will reside in the department of its respective discipline. The positions are part of an initiative to create a university-wide institute for research on teaching and learning, and the new hires will join an existing cadre of faculty.
The College of Arts & Sciences seeks individuals to join our drive to engage students and maximize learning in our classrooms, with a particular focus on student success and retention in our gateway courses.  Candidates will participate in collaborative and interdisciplinary research teams, and develop and evaluate new models of instruction, embrace online learning, and contribute to the Discipline-based Education Research (DBER) and teaching activities of their department, college, and beyond. The successful candidate will primarily teach courses at the undergraduate level in their specialty area, work with other faculty across the college to enhance their teaching practices, and engage in discipline-based education and pedagogical research. The candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program that provides support and mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students. The candidate will address the needs of a diverse student population, including differences in ethnicity, race, first-generation college status, accessibility, and academic preparation, through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
As stated above, applicants in the following disciplines are sought: Biological Sciences, English, Physics, Psychology, and Romance & Arabic Languages and Literatures (RALL). Prior to the effective date of appointment candidates must have either a Doctorate in their primary discipline, meaning one of the aforementioned disciplines or a closely related field, or a Doctorate in Education with a Master's degree in their primary discipline.

APPLICATION PROCESS
Interested and qualified candidates must complete our online application.  In addition to the application we require the following: (1) a cover letter which briefly describes interest in the position, (2) a current curriculum vitae which includes a list of teaching experiences (if applicable), (3) a statement of teaching philosophy regarding use of research-based and active learning approaches (up to 2 pages), and (4) a description of discipline-based education or pedagogical research accomplishments (if applicable) and future research goals in this area (up to 3 pages). Three letters of reference will be requested, if needed.

 

Review of applications begins November 9, 2021 and continues until the positions are filled.  Start date is August 15, 2022.
