The role
The School of Education is seeking to appoint a capable and organized colleague to join an established teaching team and contribute to the teaching of the Post Graduate Certificate in Education course. The successful candidate will show the desire and capacity to play a full and active part in the life of the School.
The role is 0.6 FTE, open ended appointment on a Pathway Three Profile, 3b (Lecturer, grade J) of the University’s Academic Pathways.
What will you be doing?
The successful candidate will contribute to the English PGCE programme, working with colleagues to deliver key teaching sessions for our student teachers, following the PGCE English curriculum. The role holder will be personal tutor to student teachers throughout the year and provide tutorials, conduct school visits, assignment support, reference writing and pastoral support. Contribution to curriculum development will include selecting and deploying appropriate content, teaching material and methods ensuring these meet the requirements of the programme (including QTS, Teachers’ Standards, Core Curriculum Framework). In addition the role holder will support student teachers in research and writing of Master’s level assignments (English and Educational and Professional Studies (EPS)), marking these assignments and other required assessments in addition to supporting student teachers following the GITEP (Gloucestershire Initial Teacher Education Partnership) SCITT programme. The role holder will also be involved in student recruitment to the PGCE programme and will be required to keep up to date with curriculum developments and research in English feeding these into the programme, as well as keeping up to date with developments in initial teacher education and contributing to the overall delivery of the PGCE programme.
You should apply if
You must have excellent subject knowledge in English (at least a good honours degree), or in a related subject; a proven track record of teaching English in secondary schools as a qualified teacher and have experience of initial teacher education in English or school-based mentoring of student teachers or recently qualified teachers.
